Hi !  I am new on here .....I actually found this forum while researching different types of surgeries.   My referral was just sent in last week so I am assuming by what the staff have told me that it takes aproximately 2 months to get an appointment.

I have a question though,  what exactly happens at the clinic?   What is the first visit like?

Which clinic were you referred to? Every clinic is different. I go to the Red Deer clinic.

Hello.  From what I have read on this forum, the Weight Wise Clinic in Edmonton is completely different from the Red Deer clinic.  I think you have to do modules and classes but I could be wrong. If you go back a few pages on this forum I think you might be able to find some info on it from past discussions.

At the Red Deer clinic we do a one cup diet - 3 meals a day.  We keep a food journal and get weigh ins every month or every other month.

Good luck. I hope you can find some more info about the Edmonton clinic.  There are lots of people on here that go to it.

Thank you so much for trying to help. Yes, we do modules ....that is prior to your first clinic appointment. I was just wondering what exactly happens at the weight wise clinic ? Anyone else from the Edmonton area here??

You are welcome.  Welcome to the group. Best of luck.  Hopefully another patient of Weight Wise will comment on here. They usually do.

At the clinic you see a nurse who is your coordinator.  They take a weight history, talk about your ideas on weight, your struggles, and then you have appointments with many other disciplines... Such as a psychologist, dietician, psychiatrist, physiotherapist, and occupational therapist.  They really expect you to keep a food journal, and start wearing a pedometer to track your steps.  As your journey continues, any dfficulties or issues you have are worked on.  I found all these professionals to be of great help to me. As time goes along discussions about surgery start if you are interested in that.   They certainly present the research that for long term weight loss success in those that are obese, surgery is the most successful option.  If surgery is an option for you, you see a surgeon, and attend an introduction to weight loss surgery.

I have a date a gastric sleeve in March, and will attend two more classes - preparing for surgery and maintaining the change.  it's been a fantastic journey so far.  I'm looking forward to continuing te journey with this surgery.

Hope that gives you some ideas....

I was seen at the end of August 2012 for the first time in the clinic in Edmonton.  I will have surgery March 20, 2012.  I believe they have shortened wait times.  Everyone is different and times may vary depending on your goals and issues.  Good luck on your journey!
