How do they decide who gets it and who doesn't?
Is it based on how much you weigh, how many co-morbidity complications you have such as HBP or Type 2 diabetes, ect? Is it based on how closely you follow the instructions and how much weight you lose in the program?
Just wondering how they weed them down from 300 to 25! That is quite a lot of people that go home disappointed.

As for people being weeded out, it really was not my group and issue, people weeded themselves out, they were not commited or they decided the surgery was not for them. I was overwhelmed and felt helpless at my first session and I honestly felt skinny like I did not have a right to be there. Now I am soo grateful that I let the process work. This was one of the most emotional experiences of my life, there was a lot of tears and fears.

Thank you so much. I just hope that I am one of the lucky chosen ones.

So here is what I can tell you and the skinny on my, I have a BMI over 50. I have 2 co-mobities. They want to see that you are able to lose at least 5% of your weight of your weight. They want to see that you are able to make the changes. Now how they pick is really based on how sick you are, for me it was not really that way because there was enough surgeries for everyone that wanted it. I got lucky essentially

I have been through the program and have had the VSG....Many people weed themselves out as they aren't ready to commit to lifestyle changes. If they see you are serious, ie. JOURNAL daily, wear your pedometer, loose 5 % at least preop. or maintain, DO NOT GAIN and increase your daily steps and exercise.....They have greatly increased the number of surgeries. They also look for co-morbidities ( i HAD controlled type 2 diabetes and CONTROLLED hypertension preop). They want your co-morbidities stable and optimal preoperativley to decrease post op complications. From meeting with the surgeons, and my endocrinologist (diabetic specialist) The "wave of the future" Docs are saying that diet alone will not treat type 2 diabetes and they think to treat it effectivley and decrease the healthcare costs in the future due to complications (Blindness, Renal failure, amputations etc. ) it is a better treatment to perform gastric surgery and so hopefully decrease the hospital costs in the future. Like I said, it's a new way of looking at things. Good luck with the program, it seems to be working!!!!
