new to the forum!
There's no doubt that these Weight Wise programs are excellent from what I hear. Great pre-op and post-op care.
Dr. Nohr in Medicine Hat is an excellent surgeon. He is very good at what he does. I highly recommend him. The only negative is the fact there is not a similar program in Medicine Hat like Weight Wise. But you can contact Dr. Nohr's office or the dietician at the hospital anytime if you need assistance. At your consult appointment, you do attend a half day session with the dietician in a class-like setting. Everything from diet, to meds and even a bit on the surgery itself is discussed. Be aware that Dr. Nohr does the RNY procedure mostly.
My doctor referred me the summer of 2009. My consult appointment ended up being April 2010 (due to a cancellation). My surgery was booked for Dec 2012 (I wanted Lap) but I received a call for surgery on October 31, 2011 (due to a cancellation). Make sure you get on the cancellation lists. I phoned the office to check in every three months until I got the call.
So far, I am feeling great. Down 40 lbs. I haven't exercised much at all. It's my New Year's resolution to get active!

Hello.
My doctor put my referral into Dr. Farries in August. In September or October I called to see if I got in or not. The nurse told me that I didn't make it but that I should go back to my doctor right now because they would be taking more referrals in January. The government of Alberta has put more money towards the bariatric weight loss surgery program so doctors will be able to take more patients.
I made an appointment for my doctor...couldn't get back in to see him until December but the day before my appointment with my family doctor, I got a call from the Red Deer clinic to say that I am in. My first appointment is Jan 10. I can't wait to start this journey.
Good luck. Don't give up trying.

I'm really excited to go forward with this journey. I have my "reminder" appointment with my doctor for april 30th 2012 so I can have my referral sent on the 1st of May 2012.
I'm actually terrified though that I will not make it into the program and will be left on the side of the road.. sound weak but its my worst fear to continue on like this. My poor body feels as if it is being crushed from the outside in, it's terrible.
Trying to keep positive and hope that I make it in and will hear something back after May 1st
anyone know of the current situations for people coming in outside of the central heath region?
people like me from calgary.
Thanks!!

You should look to see if you can get in now...maybe go back to your doctor and get him/her to send your referral now. As I said, I was informed that they would be taking on more patients at the beginning of this year. Maybe you won't have to wait for May. I am just trying to give you hope. :) I know how it feels. I feel crushed by this body. Depression is getting to me. I feel like I am not winning with any weight loss effort I have tried. I need to change now...before it gets worse. Thankfully I don't have diabetes or high blood pressure...yet...I am trying to stop that. However I am noticing that my joints are sore. It hurts to walk for a long time. It hurts my knees to walk down the stairs. It is embarrassing but something I am trying to change. I wish you luck. Don't give up.

So I went in to my doctor on Tuesday and had her send in my referral to the Red Deer Clinic. I can't stand the waiting game! I'm really hoping that I make it in.
Anyone know if I should just call to confirm they recieved the referral? is there any harm I wonder, or am I just being impatient.
I don't know how long I can really hold out like this.
Thanks for all the support.
