Im going to start seeing I think its Dr. Birch in Bonnyville next week... saw him before for a couple of appointments but got pregnant going on 3yrs ago and stopped.  So now that im still fat and still gaing i need to get this process started.  I weigh 334lbs and recently lost 64 on my own but gained it all back within a yr.  Anyone else seen the Dr. in Bonnyville and how long did it take till you got your surgery booked, we dont have the opportunity to attend the weight loss clinic in Edmonton.  Also anyone have the sleeve done, my mom had bypass back in 1989 i think and she has issues i wish not to have... terrible bowel movements and smell, still cant eat much meat and throws up, and has dumping syndrome....  Ive done every diet in the book and have left this till last resort but Im 35yrs old now and have two small children and i want to live my life no****ch it.

Hi Mamatb,

I'm currently a patient with Dr. Birch in the Weight Wise Clinic. I started the program in May of 2009 and I'm now in the Maintenance Stage and looking forward to Plastic Surgery.

I started the program at 388lbs and a BMI of 71. Since then I have lost 220 lbs and my BMI is 30.7. I'm 46 years old and I'm basically, half of what I once was.

Originally, I wasn't so keen on surgery, but after I lost my first 100 lbs, I got very scared of it coming back, so I had the surgery to prevent that from happening.

I love every minute of life.... free of pain.... free of resentment of what life would have been.

I just had my VSG with Dr. D. BIrch through weight wise on Nov. 15th. Although it was no picnic, I went back to work today and it went ok. just tired. I think the vsg is a much better option (for some) because as you do your research (and YOU have to) VSGer's don't experience the lifetime malabsoption issues that plague RNYer's . I personally think it's the new best thing. Dumping is possible but rare as well. Just do your research, make your LIFESTYLE changes for a least a year before surgery. JOURNAL your intake (be honest with yourself) and your activity. Get a pedometer and wear it ALWAYS....otherwise, you may loose initially but will sabotage yourself with cheats and nono's and gain the weight back!!! I started out 237 ("Little" I know!!LOL!!) preop, 206 and now am 188lbs. I am off all bloodpressure meds and off 3 diabetic meds now. My A1C is NORMAL!!!!!! YAHOOOOOOOOO!
