I'm home

Hello,

I had my rny surgery in Medicine Hat this last Monday.  I got home yesterday and very happy to be home with my family.  The surgery went good.  No complications so far at all.  I was lucky to be able to have the surgery laproscopically.

I find that my tummy is tender still, but not overly so.  Its my back and neck that are making me most uncomfortable.  Sent my hubby out for a magic bag that shouold help.

The food intake is okay.  I am lucky if I am getting down 1/3 a cup of fluid (cream of wheat, or soup/yogurt).  Water doesn't see to be a problem.  I am probably not getting enough protein but I am trying.  It's hard when so much is milk based.  I am not a fan of milk, but thankfully I'm not lactose intolerant either.  Was wondering how much protein you were getting down the first couple of week after sugery while on full fluids??

I am also finding that I have a feeling of tightness/narrowing in my windpipe/upper chest when swallowing and then have a feeling to burp?  Have any of you felt this and if so, does it go away eventually.

I am finding my mood is so so.  The evening seem to be the hardest, most uncomfortable.  Negative thoughts going through my head wondering if this was the right choice.  Such a drastic choice.  But then I try to think of the alternative and that I am healing right now, things will get better.

Glad your home!
I've heard its common for some people to have regrets or doubts about their surgery in the first few months. I am sure I will too. However it does get better. Keep positive and look forward to the new healthier and happy you.
Best Wishes for a speedy recovery!

congrats on your surgery. i remember my first few montts well. just focus on getting better and following the guidlines of what to drink and the soft foods.  they don't expect you to be near the protein values for the first  while.
you will be learning to eat in a whole new way and for different reasons, i had good days, bad days, i have one post on here wondering what i have  done to myself.  6 months later......i am active, lighter, happier.  keep positive and follow their rules. make  sure you write down the questions you have for the nurse and nutrionist when you go in for your follow up. they are the greatest people in the field and i stll can't believe that care they give. good luck in your new and up and coming life, enjoy the ride

Congrats Gizzys! You are on the losers bench. What a long wait for you. I still get that feeling 9 months out. The windpipe thing. That to me is my signal I'm full and I listen to it. I find my nose gets runny right after as well. Yup definitly my full signal. I think you just get used to it.

You will not get your protein in, you will lose some hair anyways. It happens. I was maybe getting 40-50grams of protein in a day, and I hated it. I'd make the shakes with milk and it was terrible tasting, but I'd drink it anyways. I learned less protein and a shake with water was a much better deal for me.

Good luck and keep walking, it will work the CO2 out of your system and make your neck and back feel better.

I too was getting 40-50 grams right away. Yes forcing myself to eat.. i sometimes wonder if i had not followed that so closely and just ate when i wanted if i would have lost more.. I eat all the time now, still only 60-80 grams of protein a day.
I get a runny nose too but i never assosiated it with anything, so that was interesting to hear!
I have never regreted it for a min, not even in the beginning, I knew that i didn't care if I ever ate again!! I wanted to be "normal" size and was willing to do anything I could to make that happen.

Good Luck and speedy healing!

Thanks for the encouragement!
I am finding it hard to get down more that 40 grams of protein per day.  My full fluid diet consists mostly of greek yogurt, cream soups, and applesauce, popcicles.  I drink water, V8 juice and Isopure protein drinks.  Supplement with Beneprotein.  I am getting my prenatal vitamin in and about 3/4 the calcium.
Lately I have been tired.  So I wonder if I am not getting enough protein.  Ugh.  Trying to find a routine to eat, drink and take vitamins can be challenging.  All when I am not hungry!
Back pain is still hanging around.  At least my blusey feeling tend to be gone.
Shopping yesterday helped!
