Opinions on cancelling family vacation

Hello ,

I have not really posted much yet, just mostly reading everyone's great advice and progress.  I am now waiting for my surgery date.  I am getting the sleeve with Dr. Karmali.  I talked to my nurse at Weight Wise and Dr. Karmali is booking end of November, beginning of December and she said I could phone the booking desk and have my date booked around that time.  My question is about a family vacation we have booked for middle of January.  I have to make the final payment by the end of the week.  Any advice/opinions on going away just over a month after surgery?  Thanks for your help.

I'm going off of personal experience here and saying that I don't think I could have gone away just a month after surgery.  I was exhausted all the time and had absolutely zero endurance.  Just walking around our property would make me so tired that I had to nap for a couple of hours.

You will be just getting to know your sleeve and what it can handle at that point.  You wont be able to eat much so your energy level will be minimal.  Also, there is a chance of complications (hopefully not, but complications are a risk with any surgery) , but you may want to stick close to home for a while after.

If it's an option for you maybe put off your surgery until after your vacation.  In the long run a couple of months wont make that much of a difference.  Jus****ch when your away that you keep yourself busy and don't over do it with the food so you don't gain too much.  You don't want them to cancel your surgery on you.

Just my personal opinion!

Thanks for your experiences.  I think that would be the sensible thing to do, not go so soon after.  I did phone the booking desk today and found out that Dr. Karmali still has quite a long wait list and is booked now until the beginning of December. I am scheduled to be booked beginning of January at the earliest.  For now, I'll just keep waiting and reading.  Thanks again!

Personally speaking, I was ready to go back to work in about a week after my VSG with Dr. Karmali. However, YMMV.

Nothwithstanding, remember one of the reasons why you are having surgery.  I would bet that it's to have a more health and fufulling life.  So, why delay the vacation.  Delay the surgery instead!  That's what I did.  I was originally called and offered mid-September.  As I was getting married at the end of September, I delayed to early November.  Yes, it sucked to have to wait a bit longer, but I don't regret doing it they way I did.

Just some food for thought.

Cheers!
