In Appreciation!
Thank-you so much for those of you who kindly offered info, encouragement and support and personal experiences in the first 14 days out of VS surgery! The information given by patients with personal experience has been invaluable and greatly appreciated! I am now @ my "moving onto solids" phase and have found it to be a trial and error approach at best! I have incorporated whipped potatoes with lots of 1% milk to add to my protien goal. I have also tried a low fat pumpkin (homemade) pie filling which was very nice. I am honestly terrified to start with meat and have avoided dealing with it, I am just worried I won't be able to tolerate it and don't want to do anything which will cause any stomach pain or find myself unable to keep it down. I do realize this sounds a little strange but that is where I am at! I am eating scrambled eggs, Greek yogurt , 1% cottage cheese and boost puddings to ensure my 45-65 mg of daily protein. Am a little surprised at the 20lb. weight loss in only 3 weeks since surgery! I am being very careful to maintain my protien levels so that I don't experience major muscle weight loss which will make losing the FAT more difficult in the future. I still feel very weak and cannot manage to walk for more than 12 mins. without taking a rest. Again thank-you so much to those of you who took time from your busy life to respond to my concerns! Any comments would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And my very best to you in your journey for health and happiness!
sounds like you are right on track and doing fabulous. i started with chicken and fish. 5 months out and don't eat too much red meat except for maybe hamberger, thin sliced roast beef but i do enjoy my beef jerky which i cant take smaller bites of and really enjoy the taste. steak or porkchops i totally avoid still. yes this forum is a life saver. there are people on it at all stages and in most part someone has been through something you are curious about an answer too. what was your starting weight. mine was 230 at surgery and it took me one month to lose my first 20lbs. good for you in ensuring the required protein. they stress this so much, right along with the not drinking within an 1/2 hour before or after eating. you are doing great! good luck in your future new life.....it is a ride
