what cause hair loss

really curious, doesn anybody know why so many people lose so much hair after surgery? do men lose theirs just as bad? do the doctors know and if they do why isn't something stressed and what we should do about it......HELP i'm looking kinda patchy!

Some ppl say it is lack of protien.  However, i have always been very diligent in making sure I got enough to avoid the hair loss.  Unfortunately it still happened.  I lost hand fulls and finally went and got my hair cut short.  Over the last month or so it has started to come back, thankfully. 

how much protein did they tell you to get...my goal is 60, easily getting that now, was i time i was very bad. how is your stall going, i'm there, haven't lost anything in the past 3 weeks, not a lb, i'm up this morning 1 lb.....very discouraging....very
