Stress test has me stressed!

I went for my pre-op appt.last week. Part of it included an ECG which the internist said had an irregularity. He booked me for an MIBI stress test .

Went for the first part of the test today. They inject you with a drug to stress your heart and  some sort of dye then you go on a treadmill while they take a heart tracing. The doctor said the tracing showed I had a heart attack some time in the past but should be OK for surgery. Haven't heard the results of the heart scan. Tomorrow I go back for another dye heart  scan while my heart is at rest.

Is it possible to have a heart attack and not know It? According to the doctor not uncommon especially if you are diabetic. This scares the crap out of me!!

I have also had a headache and been a bit dizzy since the test this morning. They said the drugs had no side effects then told me to consume a lot of caffeine today to counteract them!

I am a bit freaked out right now and don't know if I am more scared to go ahead with my surgery next week or to not have it. I know the surgery will put me in a healthier place but afraid of the problems with mt heart.

I'm sure they wouln't do the surgery if they were unsure of your health. Talk to your nurse or surgeon again and tell them about your worries. Try not to worry to much. I'll send you positive thoughts!Your heart will be alot healthier after you get surgery.
Best wishes!

It is very common for people to have silent heart attacks...... most people only find out they have had them by having a diagnostic test like the ECG done for completely unrelated reasons. They would never go ahead with surgery if they felt that your heart couldnt handle it. Because they have found this "little problem" you will get even more attention and more doctors to take care of you. You will be taken extra care of ;)
Dont be stressed, you are making all the right decisions to becoming a healthier you!!!
Good luck!!
oh and the head ache/dizzy could be because you took in more than normal caffiene today and now maybe having withdrawals??? not sure just guessing !!!

I agree with the two ladies reponses....The Dr.'s would NEVER risk your life (or their reputations and liscences) if they didn't believe your heart could handle it. Silent MI's (myocardial infarctions) are common, your heart will be healthier (and risk of further MI's reduced) if you take off the weight. Go For it Girl!! Live long and Prosper!!!!
