Finally Home

Well, that was a bit more than i bargained for!  Surgery was Tuesday morning at 10 am.  Apparently the stapler had a malfunction and didn't close on the second set.  Things were "tricky" I was told and there was some mention of weird anatomy (I need to get more info on the when I see Dr. K).  Long story short, had a rough go for a few days and was in hospital until this morning.  Things are slowly improving but still having lots of pain and still no miraculous BM (I know TMI).  Can't say that I regret it but sure did make me ask why...lol.  Here's hoping recovery is less than eventful, I still have my drain in and will have that removed Monday or Tuesday I believe.  Thanks for all the well wishes and sorry I wasn't able to get to all of you to return messages.

Yup Sarah the stapler!  Dumb thing.  Got to meet all the surgeons though and they have been great about it since.  Still have the drain but hope to have that out early this week.  How you doing these days?

Oh sorry to hear about your incident.   Now you have me curious about anatomy!  Perhaps you had an artery or something in a spot where they didn't expect it to be and they had to be extra careful.  Or maybe you have something really cool that's extra but not developed!  Okay, I wanted to be a doctor when I grew up so anatomy and medicine fascinates me.  You can tell me to hush!

I'm so glad they took extra good care of you.  I hope your recovery is smooth here out! Glad you're with Dr. K because you'll get LOTS of follow ups! :)

I didn't have a drain, maybe that's a Dr. Birch thing, or maybe you needed one because of everything that happened?  I'm curious why some have drains and some dont.

Take care, get lots of rest, be gentle with yourself and I'm moving over on the losers bench. There's a spot for you here !  :)

So I guess I imagined the part about unusual anatomy because Dr. Karmali's resident looked at me like I had three heads when I mentioned it. I will still ask Dr. K himself cause I think my husband heard it as well...lol
Good meeting a fellow OH person at the clinic this morning, hope your appt went well, sorry if you heard me screaming in the exam room - the drain removal hurt!
No extra tubes hanging from me now and feeling a little better. Take care everyone!

Nice to meet you too! Sorry you had to go through this morning though. FYI the walls must be soundproof there since we heard no screaming from the exam room. Rest easy! It's interesting meeting someone from the site- now it seems more real with real people! My appt. went good. I have the "Pre-op" class booked for this Frid. the "swallow" booked for Oct. 11th and then they said it should only be a week or 2 after that for The Call......EEEEEEEK!!! They said (the dr.) that the surgery will be done end of Oct/early Nov. as Dr. Birch's list is short right now.........Here's hoping the Stapler is in good shape and ready to function properly!!! Hope you feel better soon.....
