Hello all
I am just curious to see if there is anyone in the same area as me. I would love to hear some of your stories and maybe give/get support. I was told my surgery will be in the fall but I still have problems with my pre- weight loss that is required.
Don't be shy

Hello Mykmini
What are your weight loss issues?

I am with the Red Deer clinic & am also struggling. A huge factor for me is the very long distance I have to go to get there. Also, last month I was told that people approved in March were still awaiting dates... So I am not sure if I am going to go anymore. Driving & flying to RD each month for a simple weigh-in is just not working out

Hi, I live in High River.  I was reffered to Dr. Farries on May 3, 2011.  I am still waiting for a consultaion appoitment.  I am wondering if this long wait is normal and what kind of time frame I am looking at for getting surgery.  My doctor can't seem to tell me either.

Hello. Did you receive any correspondence from the clinic, an information package? If not, call them to see if they accepted your referral or not. I was referred last year & waited, like I was told, to never get a call. I finally called them & they had no record of me so, I had to be referred again in January (they had a second intake day). After that, I waited until March for the consultation appointment. Next, you go in each month for a weigh in. Then once you are showing a weight loss, they schedule you for psych & gastro appointment. Next, the schedule you to see the surgeon again. It takes a while. I had my appoinment in July, but won't see the surgeon in Aug, only in Sept. Then, I'll have to keep going for the weigh-ins while awaiting a surgery date.

Hope that helps you! Good luck! Which surgery are you looking into? Are you looking at other options too?

Hi Blossom,  thank you for responding.  Yes, I did call the office to be sure I was on the waiting list.  The woman just told me to wait for a call from their office and that it could take up to six months.  I just thought I would have got an appointment date by now.  It certainly sounds like quite a process.  I guess hoping I would have surgery within the year was unreasonable.

Hi, I am in Calgary.  I am a patient with Dr. Farries as well.  I was referred to him in May 2010, I was notified of my initial appointment in September 2010 for November 30, 2010.

It takes a while, so please don't give up.  It is well worth it in the end.

And for those who are from Red Deer and struggling with their weight loss, a good source of low calorie low sugar is a store call SugarFree in between 34th and 36th street going close to the hospital.  Check it out.
