From Manitoba surgery in Alberta

I'm from Manitoba and my gastric bypass surgery is in Medicine Hat, Alberta on September 26, 2011.  Once I'm out of the hospital does anyone know where i could stay while i am healing. 

you will be in Hospital for about 5 days, but after that the best place for you would be home! just take it slow and easy and have a driver, i went from Medicine Hat to Calgary, i know it's not nearly as far, but the drive home actually went very well and was fairly comfortable.  But, there is a hotel in the Hat that gives discounted rates to bypass surgery clients, i can't remember which one, but just give the office a call and they will let you know, and it's only a couple of blocks from the hospital.  :)

Hi there.  My question to you is not about where to stay but how you got you surgery booked in Medicine Hat.  I live in Alberta know but I come from Manitoba.  My family and I moved to Lloydminster in March 2011 and I had been lined up in Manitoba for gastric by pass surgery but the doc refused to do me when I told them I had to move.  Now the Alberta program is telling me that I have to wait at least another 1 1/2 yrs to 2 yrs before they will do it for me.  I do not thing that I will qualify for financing to go to Mexico.  I am very desperate and frustrated with the Canada Goverments.  Meanwhile my health is getting worse.  Can you give me any advice. THX

My doctor contacted Dr. Nohr in 2009 and i had to wait till December 2011 for my consultation. But the wait was worth it because my surgery is less than two months away.  Have your doctor contact Dr. Nohr to try to speed up the wait. 

THX  I talked to Dr. Nohr's office yesterday and now there is a age restriction at their office now.  I am really tried of the Canadian goverment and all their regulations on an operation that would change my life for the better. 

First I have heard about an age restriction at Dr. Nohr's office.  Can I ask what the age is?
My family doctor referred me to Dr. Nohr back in the summer of 2009.  My surgery is booked for Dec 2012.  Seems like forever away.  I am hoping for cancellations.  I am going the lap route.

I believe Doc Nohr won't do surgery on you if you're in your VERY LATE 40's.

Don't forget to start buggin the girls in his office after the beginning of September to get a cancellation. You can also ask to get put on a cancellation list too.

And if I remember correctly, you're in Lethbridge, right???? (Or near here. lol) If ya wanna get together sometime to talk about the surgery, feel free to inbox me and we can get together sometime. Would love to share the story. ;-)

Well I hope I get a call sooner rather than later.  I am 41 now.  I wonder if I should have went the open route instead of the lap.  My understanding is that I am on the surgery cancellation list already.  I call every two months just to check in with the office.  I know that Dr. Nohr does not do surgeries during the summer so I will make sure to call in again around the beginning of September.

I do live in Lethbridge.  I am really busy at work right now and also have holidays in the next few weeks.  Maybe we can get together in September or October.  I will PM you closer to then.

Call up the Ramada in Medicine Hat, ask about the hospital rate and tell them that you will need to be staying in town for at least a week, maybe 2 after surgery. They should be able to give you a pretty reasonable discount. The Ramada is VERY close to the hospital, about 2 blocks away.

My hubby and my dad both stayed at the Ramada while I was in the hospital. I was in the hospital for a total of 4 nights. Was glad when Doc Nohr came in on the 5th day and asked me if I wanted to go home. lol I don't remember much of the ride home cause I slept most of the way.

Good luck with your surgery!!!! And remember to get up and walk as soon as you can.
