How many does he do?
Hi Deanne
I can't speak to how many surgeries Dr. Karmali does in a week, but I know on my day he did three that I know of- Myself, Sarah (the fantastic and best surgery buddy ever) and a very nice man we met while waiting for our swallow tests the day following surgery.
If you are an info-junkie, I can pass along my binder of research and studies that I compiled before surgery. Most of the info in the studies are what I used to determine that the sleeve was for me, but if you are interested in the info I would be more than happy to pass it along.
If you are attending the EBSG meeting on monday, I would be glad to bring it along.

have you done your preparing for surgery classes?
If not, then rest your mind for a bit and KNOW that they don't generally put you on the 'list' until this is completed. Yes you're approved for surgery, but not moved over to the next 'step'.
And people can stay on that list, as Sarah said, for a good while. If you've no pre-surgery liquid diet, then they could call a little sooner because you don't need the extra time or advanced notice...plus you could be given an opportunity if someone else cancels their date (it happens!). I was given a short notice booking (one week) and then I was called again during that little week..and asked..hey, can you come in tomorrow (less than 24 hrs notice!? Um, no.
A good rule of thumb is to expect to wait for a date for at least 4 months. If you get the call sooner than squeal from the rooftops!!!
Why don't you tame the brain and say "fall" surgery. And think how nice that will be because you'll be all healed up and ready to go headlong into the Christmas season with the brand new YOU!! :)
Hugs!

Take a deep breathe and relax. Try not to let a surgery date consume your every day and every thought. I know it's hard but your day will come and you'll wonder where the time has gone.
I was approved last April, did my pre-op classes in July and August and had surgery in September with only 5 days notice. Lucky me no pre-op liquid diet. I use to call Lorraine in O.R Scheduling office at least once a month to see where I was on the list and when I called her in August i was like hey you know I don't have to do the pre-op liquid diet so if someone canceled I can come with little notice and that's what happened.
Try to enjoy the summer and hope for a fall surgery. Put your mind at ease and know that over the summer due to holidays they have less operating rooms available so it leads to less surgery dates and because wls is an elective procedure it's not top priority in the scheduling system.
You'll get there girl. Slow and steady wins the race.
