Calcium Citrate
Holy Moly my calcium citrate are like horse pills. I got them at Costco and I loved the price and size of the bottle but heck I hate the size of the pill. I'm suppose to take 4 daily and I need to take them at night cause in the morning they upset my tummy so my problem is how the heck can I choke down four of them. I can barely get 2 down with my multi vit and vit D's it's like a bedtime snack cause they fill me up.
Does anyone know where we can get Calcium citrate but in a tiny pill form. I live in a smaller town and I can't get them here but maybe somewhere in Edmonton may have them. Oh ya I've tryed the liquid and holy heck it burns my tummy, even gives me a weird cramping feeling. My nut at the clinic said alot of her patients have made the same comment so I at least know I'm not along.
Kee.

Hey Kee, you look sunshiny and great btw!
Mine calcium citrate vitamins are giant and annoying too - Citrical brand. But I wanted to only take four a day instead of a million little ones.
I used to cut them in half until I was able to manage the whole size.
Make sure not to take all four at once because (nut told me) your body can only absorb the amount from 2 of the big citrical calcium citrate, and don't take it at the same time as the multivitamin because iron interferes with absorbtion as well.

Surgery VSG Oct.8 2010. 23pds lost pre-op. I am 5'6" tall. Feeling amazing!
Totally hear you Kee.
I found capsules that we're easier to manage (like a gelcap) I didn't like them because they were 'floaty' in my tummy, but they were waayyyy better than the big huge pills.
I can look up the brand if you want. They went ok with applesauce or yogurt.
I ended up doing something else and have my NUTs 'half blessing'. It's not citrate, but I'm getting some rather than none...and working up to taking the citrate. LOL.
Seriously the capsules were way better.
ALSO!....you can get vitamin D in drops for adults now! Life saver. One drop on the tongue and it doesn't have a taste at all.
the brand is: Ddrops (they come in 1200mg or children's 400mg) So whichever amount you need you can determine from there.
The calcium cditrate is: webber naturals , calcium citrate with vitamin D, 200mg, 'easy swallow' (90 capsules) and I got it at Shopper drugmart. They are big, but they are like swallowing a tylenol 'gelcap' instead of a chalky pill.

I found Citrical petites at pharmasave. They are about half the size and i believe are 250mg each. I was so excited to find them because i wasnt a fan of the liquid either, but then one got stuck and now im scared to take them again. I just recently ordered the calcium citrate chewy bites by bariatric advantage off of ebay. They are yummy, like candy :)
Kee,
Have you tried Jamieson's Mega Cal Calcium? They are 650mg each and have vitamin D3 in them as well. These are the only ones I take now. I once took a bottle of the liquid calcium, which I told my hubby I was going to rename to caciYUCK! These ones for me are truly calciYUM!!!! lol I only like the French Vanilla ones. YUMMO! Not a huge fan of chocolate, which is the other flavor they come in. Am pretty sure you can find them anywhere. I get mine at Superstore and I have seen them in the double pack at Costco (which is where I got my last batch from), and I've seen them at Walmart.
Hope this helps out!

Hi Lori,
I believe these chews are Calcium Carbonate based though aren't they. I know in the Weight Wise Program we are told that we must use Calcium Citrate because of the absorbtion factor. I know it says its elemental but primary ingredient is carbonate I believe. Please correct me if I am wrong because these sound way more appetizing than the horse pills I see.
Thanks
Deanne

I might look for the Jamieson Mega Cals after I finish my Caltrate D chews.
The caltrate D are carbonate AND elemental, Two chews gives me almost enough elemental ...but theres also calcium in the materna multi-vitamins. My NUT looked at it with me and agreed it was pretty close and that doing it this way for ME was acceptable.
I look at it as I was getting NONE before because of gagging or grossness....and now I'm getting MOST of what I need. How can this be wrong? Know what I mean?
I have no bone issues or anything so it's all good... I will look into the Jamieson ones though to see what I think! Anyone else try thse?
