my surgery date is may 3....i have lost only 25 lbs since starting the program and they say if your weight is up (from i don't know when) that they will not do the surgery. I may be up about 2 - 3 lbs. would they cancell me because of this?  guess my biggest problem is i still can't believe they will do the surgery for me? still worried that something is going to go wrong. my doctor did not put me on a liquid diet or the colon cleanse. sure wish he had. any words of wisdom on why they would cancell my surgery....help!

HI Bonnie,

I never had to do a presurgery diet so I am not sure on that part.  I only had to call in with my current weight to make sure I was still eligible. I do know that if you BMI is too high that they will cancel for that. I really cant see them cancelling for 2-3 pounds though.  Honestly, I was up 5 pounds from my initial appointment to my surgery date and they still did the procedure.

Where is your surgery?  Who is your surgeon? Sorry I can't be of more help.

I suggest drinking lots of water and protien shakes.

The emotional roller coaster before and after surgery is tough and it all really does seem unreal until it is actually done....I still have those moments even now and am already 3 months post surgery.  It will all go fine.  SOON you wil be on the losers bench!!!

at the clinic we weren't allowed to 'gain' between our weigh in before surgery at the pre-admission clinic and the weigh in the morning of surgery.  I wan't required to do a pre-surgery fast either.  Perhaps you could eat a little lighter or if it is 'monthly' water retention..take that into account too! :)

Everyone worries about this!

I think it is especially crucial for anyone who is on a pre-diet to shrink the liver etc.  The docs need as much shrinkage as possible so that they can see your body parts very clearly.  Honestly it's not to torture us!

If i was to eat 3 large containers each day that still under 1000 calories, and yes it is only for a week and yes, this sending out a horrible time or my life.....I CAN DO IT, yup, this is the end of the old me, bring on the new, wish me luck friends, I CAN DO IT!

I think it would be best if you called the clinic and spoke with your Nurse or Dietitian.  They will be able to provide you with the best information on what to do.  You don't want to start a liquid diet without proper instruction from your dietitian.  You could also pop by the clinic to check your weight in case your scale at home is a little off.  Don't worry about anything because you are in the best bariatric clinic in Canada and the staff are trained to assist patients with all their ups and downs.

totally right squidley, you were a good reality check for me. we do have the best medical team that a person could get right here. i have done and completed everything that was asked and feel fabulous about it all. its just normal i assume for a person the friek a little before surgery. i as not asked to do a liquid diet or colon clense because dr.birch did not think or feel i required it. just because i'm still fat doesn't mean my liver is that fat too. i have restriced things i have eaten this week, kept the protein high and the fat low. i'm sure i have done as required. really feeling good again thanks team!
