Finally!
Wow, I am so excited. I finally received the first appointment call. I didn't think it was ever going to happen, but I am going for my first appt. on May 20th. Can anyone tell me what to expect now? About how long after this does it take before I actually have a surgery date? Of course if everything goes well. I am so thrilled that my journey is starting.
Welcome to the forum!
Everyone's journey in the clinic varies as they are all about what you need rather than just follow a sheet of checkboxes that moves you along. First and foremost you need to journal your food and you need to use a pedometer. If you haven't attended all the modules you may as well start because they will ask you when you are going to do it. You should receive a package in the mail with a bunch of questionnaires that need to be filled out.
First appointment is with your nurse. She will spend time doing a complete history on you and will review some of the questionnaires that you completed. From there you are guaranteed to see the dietitian for sure. Then it begins to vary. Depending on what is going on in your life you will see some or all of the following
Psychiatry
Psychology
Occupational Therapy
Physical Therapy
Respiratory (Sleep doc)
Internist
Doctor
Your story will dictate the path that the team follows with you. Minimally they are looking for you to demonstrate a committment to change by losing at least 5-10 % of your current weight. Anything you have lost to this point does not count to them it is a fresh start. My journey from clinic to surgery approval would be considered quite rapid and from all accounts shouldn't be expected for everyone but isn't impossible either. The clinic is pretty good at trying to schedule your appointments together but if you are flexible and can come whenever you may move a little quicker.
There are many posts on this forum that detail other people's journeys so take a look back. There are some very WONDERFUL people on this site and although I have only met one face to face I can honestly say that I feel the support that they offer all the time.
Hope thats helpful.
