Module #9
I just finished this 2 part module today in Spruce Grove. It is called Minding Stress: Effectively reduce and manage the stress in your life. It was a very good module. We learned all the ways how stress can contribute to weight gain and how to reduce or cope with the stress in our lives. There was an emphasis on relaxation techniques and taking time to nuture ourselves. I'm glad I took this because I do think I tend to make poor food choices when I am stressed out.
Well DANG!!! I live in Stony Plain and didn't know they offered the modules in Spruce!!! I've been driving all the way to the Alex all the time!!!Oh well, only have 9 and then # 8 in May and I'm complete! Thanks for filling us in on the Module content! I just tend to clean and not eat if stressed. I'm sort of backwards I think! Glad you enjoyed this module and am hopeful to gain some knowledge there as well. Hope to see you at the Surgeon thing on the 13th. The nurse Janine phoned me this morning to tell me about it but I was already one step ahead thanks to you Christa!!
Attending the module in SG saved me at least a half hour driving so thats great for me that they added that location. Yup I am definitely going to that surgery information session. I heard that it is going to be a full house so I plan to get there as early as I can. We should make sure Kelly-Anne knows about it too because I think she mentioned she was interested in surgery.

Yes, I am - and even more so after my visit with Janine today. It was a great visit, and I'm down another couple of pounds in spite of my recent travels (high 5!) but she agreed with my main worry about losing this weight. I'm hopeful that with the help and encouragement of Janine and Carlene I can LOSE the weight - but how to KEEP it off!? I'm learning lots from them and I think I'm doing well (18# since intake 8 weeks ago) but the long term challenge is keeping it off in the long term. Her answer,"That's why you need that tool."
I plan on going early - maybe even as early as 3:30 or 4:00, with coffee and my afternoon snack, with the intent of getting a good seat. Does anyone want to join me?

You have done really great to lose that much especially with the travelling you have done. I know that if I went home to Halifax I would have a hard time stopping myself from eating too much seafood and donairs!
I definitely want to go early too but it all depends on when my husband can get home from work to stay with the kids. I want to be front and centre so I can ask lots of questions.

I'm really lucky. Between the great suggestions from Carlene about how to eat on plan while travelling and my daughter offering to eat the way I need to while I was there it really wasn't hard to stay on plan.
Jack (fab son in law) made his incredible Vietnamese Chicken Curry for me but wan't offended at all that I could only eat one modest portion. He was out in the field most of the time, so Melina and I ate lots of salads with grilled fish of various kinds. SO yummy!
I managed over 8000 steps one day and decided I need to work harder and that I was going to get in at least 5000 a day. Janine was pleased with my greatly increased number of steps until she asked if it hurts my knees... Since it just happened that I had an appointment with the physio (Donna - lovely person) the next day, Janine told me to talk to her about my walking. I'm back to an amount of walking that doesn't hurt (between 3 and 4000 steps) and have exercises to do instead to work on range of motion and strength. I'd been under the impression that they wanted me to increase my steps no matter what - I was wrong. Donna also encouraged me to go on short walks with my dog or around the neighbourhood instead of pushing for longer walks.
She wasn't eager about the bike I want, either. I'm to work on my semi-recumbant exercise bike until I can peddle at least 15 minutes without pain before going bike shopping. She said I might be wise to consider a trike for now. She pointed out that if I was to fall off the bike (less than perfect balance) I could really hurt myself.
Am I alone in being constantly amazed at the level of encouragement, acceptance and help I'm getting through this program?
