One year out - My journey to today...
Well, my opinion of Dr. Birch will probably vary from everyone else’s on this board who has had him. You wanted an honest opinion and I will give you my honest opinion.
My first meeting with him was when I was conditionally approved. I knew before that I had a hiatus hernia so he wanted to see it prior to actually approving me. Once my gastroscopy was done, I got a call 3 weeks later with my date (good news for you, hopefully!). He was pleasant with me during our first meeting and answered all my questions, I was happy with him at that time. He did my scope and was somewhat pleasant then as well.
The third time I saw him was when I was wheeled into the surgical suite, he seemed cold and completely disinterested, more wanting to get things done and over with. I was starting to get worried because this was the man who was going to change my life forever. Maybe I felt that way because I was in a stressful situation, but, he didn’t help to reassure me.
I had a few problems after my surgery with my middle incision opening up and experiencing some pain. I made an appointment to see him, he was an hour late, didn’t apologise (my time is just as important to me as his is to him), he wouldn’t look me in the eye and constantly stared at his watch the whole 3 minutes he spent with me. He was extremely rude to me and I ended up leaving really upset. He made me feel like I was wasting his time and that my problems weren’t worthy. I also got the feeling that now he did the surgery that he was “done" with me and other people could take over. I continued to have pain issues, every appointment from then on I was dealing with his fellow (who is a complete a-hole and I’m not the only one who has thought this, according to my old nurse Corey). My opinion of him changed drastically from start to finish and to this day I will avoid him at all costs.
I hope my opinion doesn’t discourage you at all, because that’s not what I meant for it to do. I just wanted to get it out there that some people aren’t what they seem to be at first glance.
My hubby wanted me to mention that after your surgery, be prepared to get kicked out of your bed with 5 minutes’ notice. It happened to me and it was horrible, no fault of Dr. Birch, just something that happened.
If you have any more questions about anything, don't hesitate to ask. If you don't want to do it on here then send me a pm and I'll be happy to expand on anything.
