Joint Pain

I had my RNY on January 19, 2011.  As of yesterday I have lost 50.6 pounds since surgery. Yay me!

However, I am noticing that all my joints are hurting.   It started with my knees and now it is my hips, lower back, elbows, shoulders etc....Is it because my body is thankful I took some stress off of it?

Daily I take my vitamins, and my synthroid as I have thyroid disease.  I have been making sure I get my protien and do my best to get as much water as possible.

Am I doing something wrong? or is there something more I can do.

Hi Shawna,

After loosing 50 lbs in less than 3 months, your body will need some 'catch up' time... Check with your doctor, of course, but I believe that the body had to catch up with itself and the extreme weight loss.

You body does many things to counteract the weight loss. Just like it does when we put on the weight, we just don't notice it as much at that time because it's slower. Our joints and bones will notice that they aren't carrying as much weight and have to adjust.

After I'd lost my first 100 lbs, my whole body ached all the time, especially my feet?! I took Tylenol when it was bad, especially at night. I slowed down on my daily exercise and it seemed to help. It took about a month to stop the aches and pains, maybe a little less. I also started a huge stall that lasted as long as the aches and pains... so damn frustrating... but then the stall stopped and I dropped 12 lbs and the aches stopped.

All the way through my weight loss, I've had weird things happen... The aches and pains... my feet getting swelled up... then, recently, the stricture in my stomach... All of it was worth every pound dropped.

But, please, with all weird things happening, check with your doctor or team if you are at all worried. A quick email will relieve your mind or get you the help you need to correct it..
