Surprising NSV

Yesterday was more stressful than usual: my iPhone did not enjoy joining me in my aquasize class (I discovered it tucked into the top of my suit in the shower afterward - no more wearing my phone tucked in my bra!) and I spent the rest of the day replacing it and being driven around town by my daughter (who is practicing for her license and needs all the practice time we can manage)

Not so long ago a day like yesterday would have ended with order in pizza and a meltdown, BUT - I stayed pretty calm, thanked God I'm in a position to cover the cost of a new phone, bought said phone (wangled $100 off - I'm glued to Telus for 3 more years - BUT I now have a better phone plan!), reinstalled all of my apps, grieved over the data lost, rejoiced that LoseIt! keeps all of my data for me and a simple push of a button restored my log and database, ate exactly according to the menu I'd decided on at breakfast time and finished the day UNDER my allotted 1400 calories!     My dietitian has me on a fairly tight rein, and I am losing weight, but the real victory is that I did NOT self-medicate with food!   Kelly-Anne

I'd consider that a success!  Good for you sticking to your menu.  Too bad about the phone.  What a pain.

WOW!

That is one horrible day!  And I would have been rushing for the nearest carb if faced with it!  Good for you:)  That is a great NSV and I love it!

So what is LOseIt?  I have never heard of it.

It's a free iPhone App that makes tracking my intake much easier. I've even figured out how to log my aquasize class, steps and BP readings for the day.

I can email each day's log to myself or anyone else I choose, which makes it super easy to have a food and exercise journal to take to my WW appointments. :o)

PS. Bonus - LoseIt! sincs with an online version (you have to set up an account, but it's free) which means that after I bought the new phone all I had to do was download the app, sign in and poke a button to have many months of logging and my personal foods database back on my phone. Whew!!

Hi Kelly-Anne,

I'm so damn proud of you.... after a day like that... I'd be ordering pizza for the family and then not eating at all... (I don't eat when stressed)

You took control over a bad situation, instead of letting it controls you... I'm so proud!!!!!

Stay on track... don't let the world get you down... you're strong enough to defeat the bad days...

Tip for your phone....

If your phone ever gets wet, place it in a baggie of rice.  Change the rice each day for 7 days.  It usually works at the rice pulls the moisture out of the phone.

Do not try to turn the phone one.  Just get it into the rice.  Worked for my daughter when she dropped it in the tub.

Can I put rice in my whole kitchen (#@%! flood from condo above....)?! LOL

Congrats on sticking to your food plan Kelly-Anne; that's fantastic!
What kind of phone did you get?

My phone is in rice right now, but I think it's had the biscuit. A quick dip is one thing - my poor phone was immersed for over an hour while we swam, jogged and generally had fun in the deep end of the pool, then 15 minutes of stretching and gabbing in the hot tub.

My new phone is an iPhone 4. I'd have looked at other types of smart phones, but the deal breaker for me was that LoseIt! and Bridge Island are only available for iPhone. LoseIt! is amazing for my food journal and my hubby and I like to play bridge on our iPhones after supper. Yes, we're that lame. :o)

I spent a good chunk of today setting it up and monkeying with settings. LoseIt! filled itself in as soon as I downloaded the App and signed in (8 months of logging and my personal foods database. Whew!), and my contacts and photo roll were ok (safely in ITunes) but I lost pretty much everything else.

Thanks for the encouragement. :o) I seriously want to bite my nails, but will give myself a manicure tomorrow instead. I'm under my calorie allotment again today, which makes me happy. I promised myself blue toenails next Sunday if I stay under 1400 calories for at least 5 of the 7 days this week. :o) (notice my SMART goal? I'm quite proud of that, and it helps keep me interested in diligent journalling)

It's called a Keurig and you will LOVE it! If you think you'll only use it for the occasional cup of coffee Sears has the smallest one on sale for $99, BUT it does more than coffee. I also use mine for practically instant ho****er for tea, broth, instant hot cereal and cocoa. We have the one with an 80 oz reservoir AND the small one for travel. An expensive indulgence, I know, but once you've had Keurig coffee most other coffee is a pale imitation. I'm sure lucky my dietitian didn't say I had to cut out coffee, huh? (she did say to limit my caffeine, but I'm ok with that)

I see an internist on Tuesday and I'm looking forward to the weigh in part. According to my scale I'm down 11# since I saw my dietitian and I can't wait for someone official to know.

I do realize that what this really tells us all is that I was eating a LOT more than I realized, but I'm ok with that, too.

I hope you get your date soon!
