4 weeks Post-op
So today I am 4 weeks Post-Op from my RNY. The surgery went well but since then its been one thing after another. I had to go to the ER 2 days after my discharge cause I was dehydrated, the the following week I was back to xrays on my shoulder cause I was in so much pain, the a week latter i was re-admitted due to the severe abdonimal pain and my surgeon wanted to check for leaks. now a week after I was released I still can't keep anything down..not even water or ice chips, and my nurse has told me its a blockage of scar tissue..so next week I get to go back to the red deer hospital so my surgeon can do a scope and dilate the openings so I can keep fluids and foods down. I was in the ER yesturday for fluids cause I'm so dehydrated and I may have to go back before I see my surgeon to get more fluids cause I can't keep anythings down!! I'm feeling so defeated ! My poor arms are all bruised and this last time they had to wrap my arms in hot wet towels to get the IV in and it still took them 5 tries...so fustrated!!!
On the up side I am down 23lbs so far, of course the IV fluids aren't helping much as I seem to gain weight after I get an IV in.

OH heaven's honey, that's awful.
Perhaps you have a stricture or a twist somewhere, but I trust they will find whatever is giving you problems and fix you right up!
I hear you about the IVs ...maybe ask them to use a pediatric IV on you. My veins are so itty bitty...I had about fifteen pokes up and down my arms and they were contemplating a central line. The pediatric IV finally took. Maybe get them to leave the port in..just in case you have to go back?
Thinking about you!

oh not fun!! I hope it all gets better and they figure out what is wrong! And I would go with Dreena's suggestion on the pediatric IV. I had the central line - and it isn't fun at all. Especially when you are in the hospital for 3 weeks like I was. And now it looks like I have 5 random scars on my neck....but anyway please keep us updated.
thanks guys, they tried the Ped IV;s too and it didn't work either. it dosent help being dehydrated and having small hidden veins.
Anyways the good news is that they booked my Gastro for tuesday the 15th.....so until then its ice and IV's at the hospital.I hope my arms hurry and heal fast before this next rounds of pokes!!
Oh well I took the rest of the week off and next wee****il after my scope too cause I just have no energy and I have never felt this weak or light headed before. I hope its something simple and they fix it and it stays that way so I can start eating again.... I'm starting to get cramping in my tummy area and I think its cause I am hungry!!! Everything smells good even stuff I would never dear to touch....even things I don't like are appealling to me right now.... I wish I could have a glass of water so I didn't think about it so much!! that was one of my strateggies before my surgery was to drink a whole glass of water before every meal!! Man this sucks, I'll let you all know how it turns out!!

Oh Chrissy I feel for you. I sure hope they find out whats happening and get you feeling like your old self soon.
I just spent this week in the hospital due to illness and dehydration and thank god I had a veteran nurse who was able to get my i.v. in on the first try. She used the blood pressure cuff to block blood flow and left it on for a few minutes and presto it worked. I was so sick that I wouldn't have been able to fight with them over it anyway.
I do also agree with Dreena that if you are having dehydration issues that maybe you could have your port left in. I had the same i.v. site from Monday until today, they said as long as it wasn't hurting, swollen or leaking they wouldn't change it and I for one was fine with that.
Congrats on losing the 23 pounds and good luck with your upcoming scope.
