3 weeks post surgery pain?

Okay so I'm about 3 weeks out and today I have LOTS of pain in my tummy muscles.  Is it that the stitches are going?  Scar tissue pulling?  I'm just unsure.

Did anyone suddenly have more sore days further in that they couldn't attribute to anything specific.

I'm not feverish, nothing looks wrong on the surface, nothing is bulging or oozing or killing me if I press on it.  No heart racing or palpitations.  It's just weird that I suddenly hurt so much today.

I had a few days like that, pain on the left side of my abdomen, i chalked it up to doing a little too much since I was feeling better, and made sure I relaxed that day.

Hi Dreena,

I had an RNY on Jan 19 and I actually spoke with my Dr about that same thing yesterday.  He said it is because so much trauma is caused inside from the procedure and that it is normal.  It will take about 6 weeks for it to all heal.  I find it worse if I am tired or overdue it at all (feels like I did crunches for hours lol) .  Which makes sense, afterall they cut the abdomen open so it is going to have to heal itself.

Hope this helps!

Hi Dreena,
I remember around that time I was beginning to be much more active - carrying things, lifting things heavier than I should have, walking up and down lots of stairs. And immediately felt some pain etc. and had to really take things easy for a while again.

But make sure to call the WW clinic, just to check with your nurse - lots of pain is not a good thing to experience!

Hope you feel better soon.

I had lots of pain like that and was re-admitted to the hospital and they did a CT to check for leaks. I was normal except the right upper quadrant pain that had me doubled over when I moved. On Dr. on call said it was because they cut through the tummy muscles and when we start to move about sometimes we can get blood in our tummy muscles and then the wall is tight and causes pain and the only way to get rid of it is to move around and let it heal. I don't have that pain anymore, but you will feel it from time to time when you get active. take your pain meds and walk around as much as possible!!

I often have a similar type of muscle pain in my right side and I've asked Dr Birch about it and he said it's just the muscle healing and puling itself and the tissue together. Of Course there is a risk for hernia's after the type of surgery we had and he checked for that as well. Early after surgery I would get it if I was house cleaning or walking too much. Just this week I was very ill and admitted into the hospital and every time I would vomit I could feel that pain yet again and it's still there. Kinda feels like a bad leg cramp but in my tummy.
I sure hope you feel better. All the best.

Kee.
