Hello!

I am new to this board and just on the wait-list with Dr. Farries. His clinic said that I can expect to have initial consultation by summer. I hope it is soon.

My best girlfriend had surgery by Dr. Farries almost a year ago and is doing amazing!

i am going to have the gastric bypass, we collectively agreed that it was best option for me due to the amount of weight i have to lose!

The reason the dates from referral to first appointment is so far apart is because i got pregnant, then i sent another referral in and it got lost because i had surgery by another surgeon in the office!! Then one day my Dr. clinic phoned in to ask WTH..... and they gave me an appointment right away! Thankfully cuz i was about to give up on this journey. i thought after that long it wasnt meant to be..... cant wait now!!

It is meant to be! Can I ask what your starting weight was? I have a lot to lose too, I am terrified of his diet he puts you on. Apparently you eat a tiny amount 3x a day? Do you have any info on that?

Congrats on your little one by the way! I have 2 little ones, I hope for more after I have lost all my weight. Do you plan on more in the future too?

My starting weight was 501! I cant believe it was that high, i had no clue and i almost passed out when i seen the scale. Now i am back down to what i was before my daughter and that makes me feel alot better. Allthough one day when i see the 200's i will be above cloud 9!

The diet is 1 cup of food three times a day. it sounds like so little but once you get going it really isnt that bad. I just eat real real slow so that i usually have some sense of fullness or satisfaction afterwards. My biggest downlfall is eating out. We eat out ALOT!  So when i go out i obviously cant measure so i order something that i kinda can approximate. I usually get steak and baked potato. I split it all in half. so 3 oz of steak and 1/2 potato! I am sure that i end up with too much but in the end it is way better than what i would have normally ate a few months ago. His rules are No....... pop, cheese, chinese, fast food, burgers, fries, chocolate, ice cream.... i think there are prob a couple more but cant remember. they say try not to eat out and if you are going somewhere try to pack a lunch. Only allowed skim milk, decaf coffee and tea to drink. so that means none of the flavoured water or crystal light packages... apparentlly the splenda type sweetners increase appetite. he said he doesnt like you to chew gum for the same reason but he let me for the first month to see how i did and since i did so good i am still allowed to chew gum!! I cant live without it since i quit smoking! also he says no snacks, but if you must have one he says a snack is 2 carrot sticks or 5 grapes.... very little!!!  It really isnt thatt bad.... sounds a little overwhelming but set your mind to it and the faster you achieve your 10% weight loss the quicker he will book you in for surgery. You also must keep a diet diary, they love to see measured portions!! This last month has been terrible for me, i have wanted to snack like crazy and have even allowed myself a cookie here and there and a bite of chocolate! Hopefully it turns out ok for me though, i have my appointment on tuesday with them so i guess we will see!

As for children.... its part of the reason for my journey! My daughter was completely unplanned and a huge surprise but the best thing that has ever happened to me. She has given me the want to *fix* myself and live longer. We tried for 16 months to have another but was unsuccesful and was told there was no help available to someone my size. Thats when the phone rang for my appointment!! Best timing ever! So after i have surgery and after i lose lose lose! i plan on having more..... how many i dont know! i also said no kids but now that i have the best one ever, i always joke that i will have 10 more!! i would like at minimum 1 more and i cant wait for that day!!

allthough this week my "best child ever" has been rotten! I put my diet diary on the counter, went to grab it the next day and it is gone!!!!! I cannot find it anywhere! Stressing me out. You never go to an appointment wthout a completed diet journal. thankfully i did have it all entered on fitday.com but i would seriously just like my journal back!! What could a 2 year old possible do with it????? today is gonna be clean the whole house till i find it day!

if you ever have any questions i will be more than happy to answer them all!! Oh and BTW this is the first time ever that i have said my weight 'outloud' persay and that scares the cr@p outta me!!

I know what it is like to say the starting weight out loud. I won't tell many people my weight either. Right now I am 313. It is scary to even type that! I would like to someday have a healthy BMI, but even if I get down to what I was before my oldest daughter I would be happy. That was right around 200.

I do have a friend who had RnY by Dr.F. Her anniversary (surgerversary?) was 11months yesterday. She has been amazing in answering questions for me but does not have the best memory and organization and could not remember the diet and some other things I asked her. She has lost 142lbs since the day of the surgery. She looks like a whole new woman!

I am excited to start the diet, and am thinking of easing myself into it before I have my consult. The nurse said it should be between now and summer. I know this sounds crazy but I am afraid if I start now and lose my 10% before I see him he will make me lose another 10% on top of that. I know it will be a struggle to lose the first 30lbs, I don't know if I can do it twice?! I also don't know if I can jump into that diet “cold turkey" I would want to eat my arm.

I have a similar experience in the children category. I did not think my 1st daughter was possible without medical help and then awhile later I got a surprise. I was a younger mom but I loved it. She is now 4 ½. After I got married we tried for about 2 years for another one. I tried multiple fertility treatments and nothing. We were blessed at the end of 2010 with another beautiful girl we are hoping to adopt, but I still really want to be pregnant again and my hubby wants a bio child.

I hear you on rotten children! My 4 year old has been a struggle lately. Except today she has been super-good. Maybe turning over a new leaf? I have no clue where a 2year old would have hidden a book, kids are excellent hiders of parent's things. Good luck in finding it though!

Also, good luck on your appointment on Tuesday. I will be out of town but I will look forward to an update, if you are willing to share. Are you actually in Red Deer?

Ya i wouldnt recommend starting the diet until you have your first visit because they do require you to lose 10% under their supervision so you would have to do it twice!! It is all a mindset..... drink tons of water and the diet will fall into place. Thats great that you have someone so close to you that has already had the surgery. Tell her congrats for me on the amazing weightloss so far. I dont live in red deer but i do live close by and work in red deer. I am excited for tuesdays appointment as it is my pre-op appointment and all the paperwork reguarding health history and such before surgery. I have completley gutted my daughters bedroom and took all her toys out and put them all back and emptied her closet and dresser and still no journal....... some days i have to remind myslef how much i love her hahahah!!

I am also a patient of Dr. Farries.  I am glad I found a group of patients to connect with.

I have been a patient since November 30 and hoping to have my VSG surgery date very soon.

I have lost 30 pounds with the 1 cup of food 3 times a day diet.  For me it was not hard to adjust to.  I bought two three pyrex 250ml containers with lids.  And what fits in there is good and I do not snack.  I also only drink water with a sometimes squirt of lemon juice.  I don't like coffee and having grown up in the south USA, I only like sweet iced tea, so I am staying away from that until after surgery I will sweeten it with splenda.

I hope to hear from other Dr. Farries patients.  Maybe we can start a group on here for all Dr. Farries patients so we can compare notes and surgery successes.
