What are nsaids? and why can't we take them? If I had no internet... There was nothing in my information that said anything about what pills I could take or not take. And as a matter of fact I have always taken ibuprofen for my torn ligaments in my knee so I asked Dr Nohr in the hopital if it was true I could no longer take and ibuprofen he looked at me like I was..silly... and said no that was not true.

So I have a cold I'm tired of... and haven't taken anything to help since I am confused about all the information of what I can and can't take! I am thinking I am going to take tylenot cold.. even though advil cold and sinus has always worked wonders for me! Any thoughts??

Thanks guys
Dori

I was told the same thing about the ibuprofen. But my doctor told me that I was allowed to take advil liquid gels as they dissolve quicker. But now I only need to take one...unlike the 4 before surgery.

Thank you!
liquid gels make sense since they dissolve faster and therfore don't need as much stomach acid I presume?
My thoughts about all this information out there is that I still have all the same insides just smaller! So why all the new rules?!
I took the tylenol cold, seems to be fine. I may be an exception since I can eat everything and anything ;) lol

Dr. Nohr allows NSAIDS. Some docs don't because they can lead to ulcers if taken all the time or in big quantities. If you're more comfortable taking the Advil cold and sinus there should be no reason you couldn't take it. I was worried about not being allowed NSAIDS too pre-op. That was one of the first things I asked Dr. Nohr and he said we could continue to take them.

IT's because you have a teeny pouch as opposed to a large stomache and that pill sits there in the tiny pouch dissolving.  IT can hurt the lining of the stomache, bleeding, slow healing, lead to ulcers etc.

This was one of the things I asked in my Pre-op class cause I use Aleve for everything, for me it's a miacle drug.
Anyway I was told by my surgeon that there is no reason I can't take nasids never again. He recommended not to use them in the first 2-4 weeks of surgery so that my sleeve staple line can heal. Other than that I was informed that excess use of advil, ibprofen and aleve can cause stomach ulcers but that can happen to people who don't have wls. I had surgery almost 4.5 months ago and I use it occasionally and my sleeve don't mind it. I've noticed It actually helps releax my sleeve and settle the growling noises that still comes from it.

Aleve is a miracle drug! I use it when my knee goes out, I have a torn MCL and ACL in my right knee... ouch and when it goes out i"m limping around for a month atleast.. The Aleve really helps me walk!! Nothing else touches it.
So good news to hear! and since I very rarely take anything.. headache once a yr maybe? my knee approx once a year.. is the only thing I take a pain releiver for.
When I go on the RNY board, oh my there seems to be alot of information of all the things I can't have! I just have to ignore it and carry on :)
