Whinning again
Sorry all but I just don't get it, I do 50 mins a day on treadmill and if I increase my food intake at all I put on wgt. I am aware I'm building muscle but i'm onlÝ eating approx 300 calories a day. My ryn was nov. 22 pls help how do I kick start my metabolism to loose wgt. I no my body is holding onto the fat, but how can u go from 10,000 calories a day to 300 and not loose wgt, I already had one stall in dec - jan for 2 wks. Thanks for listening and helping. Arlene
You are definitely not taking in enough calories. Your body is holding onto everything that you are taking in because it doesn't think it'll get it's next meal anytime soon. What do you typically eat in a day? I can't imagine only eating 300 calories this far out from your surgery.
Try to eat 3 "meals" a day plus 2 to 3 snacks. Also, try to incorporate more lean protein into your meals, chicken, fish, beans etc. For your snacks try yogurt, milk (lactose free kind if you can't take in lactose), cheese, perhaps a piece of deli turkey over a cheese string? Greek yogurt is low in fat and high in protein too, maybe find a recipe to use it in if you don't like the taste of it out of the container. Don't worry about trying to cut out carbs at this point, if you focus on protein first then there wont be much room for carbs anyway.
I also wanted to mention that stalls happen! They happen a lot more frequently as you get further from your surgery. A good thing to do is to take measurements, quite often you may be losing inches and not seeing it in the scale. At least that way you wont get so frustrated when the scale doesn't move all the time.
I hope that helps,
Jill

I think Jill's post is awesome. She is so knowledgeable on this stuff.
I understand how you feel about the full feeling so quickly when eating. I have awesome restriciton and I struggle to keep my calories up. Usually I sit between 400-700 depending on the day. I sometimes use nuts to up my calories and protein but there are days when I'm full off of fresh air and nothing goes down good. You know honestly I think it's all trial and error.
I did find these protein bars at Shopper's, they are the Life brand ones and I actually like them. They have 193 calories and 14 grams of protein. The bonus part is that this week they were on sale for $0.98 and they work for me. I've struggled with protein shakes and bars for so long and spend many of dollars on them just to throw them out. Imagine my surprise when I found out cheaper can be better.
Good Luck trying to find a balance that fits your life style.

HI Arlene,
I am frustrated to, I lost 25lbs in the first three and a half weeks and nothing since! I actually can eat anthing and everything i want, (good and bad) i get all my protien, vitamins and fluids in and was eating between 800-1200 calories. I talked to Amanda and she said not to go over 1200 so i have been keeping it under 1000, i use my treadmill 30 mins a day and 10 mins or so of yoga, i have joined aquasize which is once a week (if not cancelled due to contamination).
So like you said how can you go from eating thousands of calories to this and not be losing during the (honeymoon) period? It seems to me most people lose 20lbs a month approx?
I have heard others at this stage say they thought they were going to be the only ones this surgery didn't work for! So I just try to stay positive that it will come off when its ready and that the slower it does means better skin elasticity and less hair loss One can hope!

Hi Arlene
I was feeling exactly the same way. The weight loss has been so extremely slow that I was second guessing my decision to have this procedure in the first place - can you believe that!! Four years of planning and research and I was willing to throw it away because it wasn't happening as quickly as I wanted.
Slow and steady will get us to our long term goals - and at the end of the day - for all of us - it's to be healthy and be around for our families a lot longer.
Have faith. One day at a time!!
