It's Happening.
But now it's falling out again and worst than before. I guess I had some naive thinking that if I took the Biotin and still used Nixion I would escape the dreaded post-op hair loss, Oh Boy I guess I was only kidding myself. I'm just hoping I don't go bald...lol..

Are you just starting to loose the hair now after this amount of time post op. I to had lots of hair and then lost alot with the poor nutrition etc with being extremely overweight. I too am hopeful that I missed the post op hair loss and up to now it has been minimal. But am now starting to worry if you just started loosing hair. I have though to hear of anyone going bald fingers crossed.
This is a huge fear of mine, I lost alot of hair when I got thyroid disease, it nevaahhhh came back.
Maybe get a really good haircut? I know sometimes when you have a good stylist who can shape and structure things it will hang a bit differently around your head/face and looks a little 'refereshed'.
Keep taking your biotin and using you nioxin...i've never used them before (but if you tell me where to find them I'll join you!!)
Kee, if you have three hairs left on your head..you braid them, two ...part them down the middle, one..put it in a pony tail and rock it! ..until the rest come back! They will come back! Hang in there! :) I hope that made you smile!

I tried Nioxin and it did absolutely nothing for me, my hair dresser says it's overpriced low quality shampoo/conditioner. She told me she'd rather me use Herbal Essences than Nioxin!
I tried Biotin and did my best to get in the required amount of protein and it still didn't help. I'm pretty sure it will just happen, it's all a matter of how we get through it.
Mine thinned out quite a bit, but now, at 9 months out, it's all starting to grow back because I can see all the little hairs sticking up. I'm pretty sure no one noticed how thin it got, I think people focused more on how good I looked otherwise.

Dreena you did make me laugh, I love your sense of humor and I bet it's help you through some difficult times. I got the Biotin at Shoppers Drug Mart, apparently its suppose to help with the hair loss. I started t before surgery and I continue to take it daily.
Jill I never knew you before surgery so I don't know how much hair you use to have but I don't think its that thin, I guess being curly and all makes it look less thin. I can see why people comment on your weight loss cause you looked awesome when I seen you.
Thanks girls for all your support.

I didn't go bald and most people don't notice unless they put their hands through my hair...but I have lost about half of the hair I used to have.
My hair loss started at about month 2 and continued until about 5 1/2 months. I'm just coming up to my 6 month on the 13th.
I need to start trying hard to get my protein levels up and hope that it helps with the hair loss.
Thanks Adrainna.

I was hoping that once my weight stabilized that my hair will grow back. Most of what I have read in the bariatric surgery books have said that hair loss is a short-term complaint. Please Please Please let that be true!
This is something I read about hair loss...it made me feel a little better:
This is also a typical short term effect of weight loss surgery. Hair loss in weight loss surgery patients generally occurs due to reduced in take of proteins. Following weight loss surgery, hair loss starts occurring in the fourth and fifth month. This results from the shedding of your hair follicles. With reduced protein intake your body sacrifices hair that is made from proteins to make the little protein available to more important body functions. Fortunately once your nutrition goes back to normal and you provide enough dietary protein, the hair loss stops and your hair thickness goes back to normal.
Oh...I hope it all grows back!!! I already look ridiculous with my clothes off because of all the loose skin, I don't think I could handle losing all my hair too. The only wig I have is blue...I don't think that would go over well at work. LOL.
Katrina
Thanks for posting the info you found. I do have a hard time getting my protein in so I guess that's a major contributing factor with the hair last.
Take Care.
