alcohol
I have always been a drinker and hope to continue to be LOL
alcohol is off the diet for two months, no problem I'm happy to be the DD for awhile :)
my question is; at what point did you start to indulge in a drink or two? And what type of alcohol is considered best? safer? I'm not sure what I'm looking for, I drink beer but I'm not sure that will be allowed.. LOVE smirnoff ice and they have come out with a light that has 0grams sugar and only 100 calories? or will it just be a glass of wine here and there?

After RNY surgery carbonated beverages are out cus it will stretch your pouch so no more beer. Sorry. I had some alcohol last month, I had one drink & was really drunk then about an 1/2 hour later I was totally sober. It was like it entered my systems super fast & exited really fast. Whatever you are drinking should be lower in sugar.
I was just discussing this with friends!
Absolutely with the RNY you get drunk FAST because the alcohol is delivered to your body straight past your stomache processed and then BAM, sober.
This of course has it's dangers: getting into a pattern of drinking more to stay drunk or buzzed, which is NOT good for your body, or playing with your emotions in a very bad way if you're ever an emotional drinker. So be very careful with alcohol and RNY, it's a bit of a sticky situation.
Plus, I don't know, but wouldnt some of the higher sugars in the alcohol also put you at risk for dumping?
I have no experience with this, of course, I'm pre-surg and getting the sleeve (VSG). I'd be interested in hearing everyone's input as well!

I love my hard Liquor at this time of year, of course they all go well with pop. I use Coke 0 at the moment for my rye and coke but I as of June 12 I'm thinking that next Christmas I may try Wine as it has no carbination. I think just like everything else it will be a trial and error kinda thing!! I'm having the RNY, and considering I only drink at the Holidays I should be ok, I have a whole year to not worry about it!! I'm totally enjoying this christmas with all the different kinds of alcoholic drinks I love, I'm going out with a bang this year!!! Then I'll be ready for Jan 12th!!
I have tried a few different alcohols after surgery!
Beer included....I't's ok, but, don't want to strech the sleeve if it can be done. Plus, I don't like the feeling it gives my sleeve. Draft is a lot easier. I can do 2 pints and some wings. With Spiced rum and diet Pepsi and the ice waters the carbonation down. I can do a few of these ;o) I have only drank about 10 times in the past 2.5 years but, it was all good. I even find the scales drop after for me!

seems like there are many different opinions and experiences.. It may have to be a trial and error thing, what works for me how it feels etc.. draught beer makes sense, it always seems a little flat, i have never heard the pop streching the pouch.. i'll have to do a little research I guess.
I had also asked the doctor before I left about Not taking ibuprofen ever again as I had read it on here... he said that's not true.. everyone is different in what they can tolerate.
Happy for all the input!! thanks guys

Advil/ibuprofen ---- You can take it again. I do if I have a real miserable headache. My family doctor said it was ok, and he knows all about RNY surgeries as he's assisted on them before. He just says not to make it a regular habit.
And like I said.... everyone's surgeon will tell them something different. When in doubt, email Amanda or call Dr Nohr's office.

Surgery --- DONE!!
Surgeon --- Dr. Nohr -
Everyone experience different side effects to different things, so basically it's trial and error. I know it was branded into me not to drink carbonated beverages so I wouldn't attempt beer but I have had a shot of Malibu and pineapple juice and I was fine, didn't make me tipsy or anything. I not a hugh drinker anyway so it doesn't bother me.
With sleeve surgery you can also take ibprofen but it is easier to get an ulcer from it, or at least that's what I was told by my team at the Weight Wise Clinc. I take Aleve only when I have no other choice.
Good Luck with your recovery and weight loss.
Kee.
