I had surgery last wednesday so I am home with my staples and tube thing... my question is : since yesterday I have noticed some leaking from around the incision of my tube.. only a small amount of yellowish stuff that drys up..
Do you think i should see a doctor? or is that normal for most?
thanks
Dori

The same thing happened to me, it is normal and i was leaking until it came out, also you may find that under the insertion site of the tube it may feel like it's kind of burping especially when you lie on your back this is normal also, it will stop when tube removed.  I'm glad your home and have been thinking about you, glad everything went well.  Arlene

OMG!!!! Dori.... DO NOT scare me like that!!! I thought it was something else and I was worried that something was very wrong. *cries* Yeah.... like Arlene said, it's normal. And when your doc pulls that tube out, it'll be like a "pop". My feeding tube was plugged and when my doc yanked it out, EVERYTHING came gushing out... ALL OVER ME! It was soooooo gross. He then covered it with some gauze, put steri-strips on a couple spots on my incision line and sent me on my way.

*hugs*

Tube?  What kind of tube?  I had RNY with Dr. Birch & I did not have any tubes after surgery.  I was curious what the tube is for?

very true Tammy but it is a very small amount i don't think i'm worried about it :)

Lori that is gross! lol now i'm nervous about having it out! lol

The tube goes into the old stomach so that in an emergency of the new stomach not working , too much vomiting etc, they could feed you through the tube left in the old stomach. Is what they told me, it gets taken out the same time as the staples.

hI Dori - sorry I haven't responded to your message - I've been wiped out.  I didn't realize that one sentence I typed out was going to actually post on my blog.  I thought I could start it and save it until it was finished, but it posted it !

Dr. Nohr actually warned me before I left the hospital that the leakage would happen.  He said that part of the process is having the new stomach adhere to the abdominal wall (or something - you know how he kind of talks in one long sentence - sometimes I lose him along the way) and that the stuff coming out was part of that adherence process ???    Anyway - I'm having it too, but I knew to expect it.

I looked for you when I was in the hospital too.  I was on 5E.  I walked through 5W a few times, but I didn't see you.  When I went for that fabulous swallow test, there was another girl there (who looked pretty miserable), so I thought maybe your date had been changed or something.

have you weighed yet ?  I'm down 15 lbs already !
