Anyone had lap-band done in calgary??

 Hi . I am just wondering if there is anyone who has gone thru the weight management program here in calgary and had the surgery done here  by one the surgeons?

I  am supposed to be having it within the next few months and not sure what to expect.

Any advice or comments would be appreciated.

This is really great news, as a couple of years ago the wgt management program in Calgary folded.  I did not know that they had found a new surgeon.  My girlfriend works for a clinic in Calgary and asked me if there was anyone because they could not find a surgeon here, could you please give me more info, as for me i'm having my surgery done next week in Medicine hat..  Hi. Yes I think that the WM Program has had some problems over the past few years but I think they are on the right track now. The classes I have been attending and the support I have received  has been very helpful to me. It was (and is!!) a big committment to attend but it is getting me on a better road to health. 

I believe there are four surgeons in Calgary .... I can only remember two because one did the session for the group and one did my interview to see if I was a good candidate. They all work out of Peter Lougheed Hospital. Dr. Neil Church and Dr. Phillip Mitchell are the two names I know but I understand that there are two more surgeons. 

For this fiscal year they  are offering 25 surgeries out of calgary done between late november and february. I don't have an exact date yet but I know I will be between these dates. We have a session on the 23rd of November to purchase our optifast and find out what preparations we need to make before surgery. I am anxious to just get this over!

That is exciting that your surgery is next week! You must be on optifast right now?? How is it? How many weeks did you need to do?

Question ...are you from Calgary or Medicine Hat?

Hi Krista, thanks for the info it was greatly appreciated. I'm from Calgary but am having the bypass done not the band. I will let my girlfriend know of the docs she said she is getting numerous calls. I wish you also all the best and I'm sure all will go well and hope its not to long a wait for you, but time does go by fast. Arlene
