Surgery approval to getting a date?

Hi all,

Maybe you can help me plot this out in my head a little....

So I've been approved for surgery and my classes are booked for:
Nov 26 and Jan 7 (because of Christmas)

My Surgeon will be Dr. Birch (who I hear has a smaller wait list than dr. Karmali).

I was told that March is a possibility for surgery when I asked at the clinic if they could give me a 'ballpark' guess.

What do you think?  Does anyone ever get a call before they are done their classes?   How long of notice do they give you when they call you with a 'date'?

I'm really looking for some wisdom because as some of you know I'm teaching classes for hooping (and I will need some recovery time), my fingers are crossed for spring break! haha.

PLUS we were served court docs on Wednesday and MUST appear in court the first week of March. (Relating to a case a year ago where a man tried to lure and proposition my 12yo on seperate occasions as she walked to school).  Obviously this is of utmost importance.

My husband is concerned that if I get a date..and I say 'no i can't be there' then I will lose my spot and have to wait a very lenghty time.  Has anyone ever said no?  Do they give you a choice of dates?

Thanks, for your support, friends!

Dreena:

I had my orginally booked classes on May or June and then the end of July...I can't remember exactly. But when I got told my surgery date, I have to call the clinic and rearrange everything because my post-op class was after my surgery date. And my next appointment for Corey and my Nut were right when I was going to be in the hospital.

Call Lorraine and let her know the court date. She will do her best to help you. I kow a friend that had to deny 2 dates because of the death of her mom and one other reason (I can't remember what) but they understand with life - you just can't keep denying the date. 2 times denying is the max I believe.

It depends on the person and if you need to do a liquid diet or not. I got a month's notice. Kee got 5 days. I called one month after approval and was told that I was on the waiting list. Then I called 2 weeks later and a date was booked with me right then and it was 4 weeks away.

You are looking at the sleeve right? I was estimate about 3 - 6 months for surgery. So March seems right in the midle of that.

I elected to say no to my first appointment, which was early October 2009, if I remember correctly.  Dawn and I were going to be married at end of September and it fell within the 3 week liquid diet period.  I had no intention of drinking Ensure on my wedding day. Sure, I could have, but it wasn't an ideal situation.  So, I said that the date didn't work for me and I was put back onto the list, near the top I assume.

In terms of advance notice, I wouldn't expect more than 3 weeks on average.  I've heard of some people being called with only 2 weeks notice.  For me, I was giving about 3 weeks noticed on both dates.

As long as you have a valid reason for reschedulding, it shouldn't be a problem.   I think you've a pretty legitimate reason with your court dates, which are non-negotiable.  They should have no issues working around that, should it come to pass.  If they can't fit you in during the current booking session, you will likley be postponed to the next, which can be between 3-4 months.  It seems like they have fall, summer, winter, and spring sessions, IMHO.

Cheers!

OK.

I called Lorraine.

She said Dr. Birch actually has the LONGEST list so I was given false information.  Hmm!  LOL.

She said she doesn't see me on the list at all and to call her after Christmas.

So maybe I'll be a springtime sleever?

Anyways, it gives me some time and I'll call after Christmas as she said.
