Choosing goal weights - long term, short term

How do you all choose the goal weight you list here? I chose the weight that would give me a healthy BMI, but in real life I'd be THRILLED to weigh what I did when I got married - 206.

In the shorter term I'm be pretty darned happy with 249, since I haven't weighed less than 250 in over 20 years. In yet shorter term, I'm focussing on losing 15 more pounds and celebrating that - at 270.

I've been wandering around on the forums and some people show several goals - how does one do that?

I think there was a 'list' of goals that I could choose, and then I just made some up.

For me goal #1 was 5%

then a number goal of 255 ( can't remember why this one was important because it took me so darn long to get there!)

Now I'm close to a 10% loss...another few pounds. Which will get me to a new set of numbers.

After that....perhaps I will strive for 225 because I remember feeling DANG good at that weight, it seems too large of a gap though, so I might insert a mini goal in there so that I feel accomplished and successful  (not that I'm not already, I just need to trick my head and feed my fragile ego!).   So a brief stop at hmmm....238 sounds delightful.

I haven't been below 246 since I got pregnant in 2004.  I think I'm staring it right in the eyeball.  I need to get some fire in my belly and go for it! Go hard!

I like your goals.  At clinic they were really pleased with an overall loss of 7 - 9% for me...maybe you can shoot for the 5% while you wait?  That would be a worthy goal!

Ok, dumb question alert. What is meant by the 5 or 10%? is that a percentage of my original weight? My current weight? A percentage of my excess? If so, how do I determine what my excess is?

If it's a percentage of my start weight, my current goal of 270 is right. If of my current weight, then I should be working toward 256.5?

I think I like the idea of 5% of whatever current weight I'm at - a challenge, but not overwhelmingly so.

Yes, 5% down from your starting weight!   So why don't you go for that 270 and then make 256 your SECOND goal!  Perfect! :)

My listed goal is 185, the weight when I last felt completely at ease and comfortable in my body, and HAWT. HA HA HA

Honestly though, the goal I am working on right now is my "half way" goal of 242ish. Next it will be crossing that Horrid 200 Threshold... I swear, once I hit 200 I slid right into the 220s. I don't remember the 'teens at all!

The WW crew is convinced I can make it to the BMI range, which is 135-155. Since I was in elementary school when I was at this weight range, I always snort alot at the idea of this being possible. But hey!! Pigs can fly! I am actually losing weight right now, which I didn't really believe was possible... so it could totally happen...
And you will know when, I will be having a Parade down Jasper Ave to celebrate. Y'all are invited!

Dr. Birch seems to think that I can lose a total of 200lbs from my starting weight. Which would put me at 160lbs. For my height (4'9) my ideal weight is supposed to be 100lbs or some crazy number like that. I would be happy to get out of the 200s. That is my goal for my 1 year surgiversary. To be able to less than 200lbs. I'm currently in a 1x/2x top and 22/24 pant. I haven't been in either of those since before high school, so I don't have a goal for that....BUT I would like to be a size 20 comfortable pant by Christmas.

lol.nope. No Step stool - just ask people to help me all the time, or I climb on things at the grocery store to reach the top shelf. And at my place, I have nothing on the top shelves that is mine.

Honestly, first goal was to be below 300.....now i'm almost below 200, and fighting every pound to come off.  Dr. Davey does not give numbers to go by and I believe if I was to do that...I would fail, like I did many times before this surgery.  I feel great, look great and am taking this one step at a tme.

Good luck to all...
