Out of province self-pay?
VSG on 06/26/12
I was referred to the Weight Wise program a bit over a year ago, did all of the modules, and have been playing the waiting game ever since. I called about a month ago and was told I'll likely get my call for the clinic "sometime early in the new year" and my first actual appointment sometime next spring or summer. Who knows how long it might be after that for any chance of surgery.
I know everyone else is just as worthy and eager, but figured it wouldn't hurt to ask about other options and if anyone on here had gone to, say, Quebec, for sleeve surgery. I really can't see myself going south to Mexico, but Quebec sounds less scary. Anyone?
I have been doing what they told me at the modules, but have only lost 15 pounds. I feel like I'm on an endless treadmill to nowhere...

My weightloss has been very slow over the past few years as well.
I was referred to clinic almost 2 years before I had my acceptance into the program and able to take the modules. THen 6 months after that it was my first clinic appt. Now having been a year in clinic I'm finally at the point where I've been approved for surgery.
It has all been worth it.
When you finally meet with a dietician and they design a nutritional program based on your body, your lifestyle and the goals that are healthy for you, you will lose more weight! I encourage you to keep with it! The clinic is so positive and supportive on many levels (for me). Very educational. I know that part of the key for me was reducing my current intake by 500 cals and trying to bump up my activity just a bit. This helped me lose about 0.5 - 1lb a week. VERY SLOW, but in the end VERY WORTH IT!
I did not know I wanted surgery going into the my appts, if you know already and you've done all of the modules you might not have to wait as long as me.
I've not met anyone who's had out of province surgery, I hope someone here can give you some insight to that!
Congratulations on the 15lbs you've already lost!

I believe that everything happens for a reason.
Sometimes I felt that way. But..... I know some people who have waited for over 2 yrs and I know personally someone who was turned down from even going into the program.
I know that when I had surgery in April 2010. That their were several people in hospital with complications from going out of country.. Dr Robbins was telling me how its difficult for them to help people who go away cus they really dont know what was done.
I know it seems like forever but Honestly. Like dreena I did not know that I wanted surgery. I was more than 6 mths in and decided to look into it.. I had a great result with things in the beginning and was afraid that it would be like most of my life.. Get down and gain it back.. I believe that just give it time. I was 410 when i started this journey. when referal was sent.. Then in May 2009 I was just under 400 when I came into the WWC And When I had surgery I was 328.. Today Im 232.. And as I tell people .. This Journey is a life long Journey with Tools to help me..
Come to the support group hook up with others who are waiting or have had.. Support is a great thing.. I hope you keep going.. Cus it's worth it..

Thanks for the encouragement and hug. :o)
I waffle back and forth between wanting surgery NOW and being afraid of it but still desperately wanting to be rid of all this fat that is coming between me and the life I want to live. This past week I decided that if I'm going to wait another year or MORE I'm going to take control of this on my own - at least for now.
I already go to aquasize 3 times a week and try to get out for a walk on the other days. I'm also looking into a bicycle, even though it isn't exactly the right time of year for one.
On the diet front, I spent a LOT of time reading about people's journeys on here and decided that if it's healthy to do the shakes for 3 weeks before surgery it won't kill me to try a couple of weeks on them without surgery. I've done a week and am down 7.4# - and am finding it surprisingly easy. I did adapt it in 1 way - I'm having 4 shakes and a small supper of lean protein and a couple of cups of low-gi veg, which makes it easier since I can have a normal (sort of) supper with my husband. I make him rice or potatoes or pasta to fill out his supper and he's being super decent about the lack of casseroles, sweets or fried anything. This is giving me about 1200 calories and 60-70 grams of protein, which has always been the level I'm able to lose. Anytime I manage that calorie level without the highish protein I feel lousy and catch every bug that flies by me. sigh
I've tried and tried to stay at that calorie level with regular food, and found it incredibly difficult. I've also tried staying at the calorie level my Dr and dietitian suggest - 1800, which does NOTHING for getting off weight. So - although I'm hoping I won't get flamed for it, this is what I'm doing.

Thats awsome..
Keep plugging away.. As for the choices your making. if you have a reason why and if your still being healthy.. I dont see it being an issue. I was never one for doing exactly but I always had a just reason.. And both my RD and RN were very supportive.. I found working Nights very hard and the eating thing.. I worked over nights and shifts. so it sucked.. But they worked with me and it did ok.. Im glad that you arent giving up. I truly believe that things happen for a reason at the right time of our lives..
