bougie size canada vs US
Why is it that in the US and MX they use MUCH smaller bougie sizes? 34-ish?
Other than the obvious size difference, is it better to have a smaller tummy? Riskier? Do they provide the same outcomes in the longrun? I don't know much about this side of the surgery.
If anyone has any info I'd love to hear your wisdom!

Yes, I think this is correct. Dr. Karmali told me he did a size 50 on me. When I asked him why so big, he said that he always uses a 50 and that it isn't much bigger than a 34. That doesn't sound right to me! But anyway- that is what I got. I was sorry later that I hadn't clarified this before my surgery but it is what it is.
It also depends on the length of your stomach, the longer the stomach the smaller the bougie size, a short stomach usually will have a bigger size, apparently they both have the same capacity for restriction. I guess if thats the truth I have a long stomach which would be the only thing long on me cause I'm a short ass.

You can either believe it will happen.....or believe it won't. Both are self fulfilled prophesies. For Me it has happened. My Surgery was September 21/2010
When I was in the hospital they told me that my sleeve was the size of an index finger. At the time I was on morphine, and pretty much bellowed, YOU"RE KIDDDDINNNG!!! ha ha.
I have seen a stomach in anatomy studies and know that comparatively that is pre-tty small...!
I did some research before the surgery and learned that if the sleeve size is too small, there is more risk for complications - the sleeve shape follows the natural curve of the stomach edge (banana shape) and if too thin, it could twist, or if too small inside and you eat too much, it could leak easier.
I am not sure what the technical size is of my sleeve, maybe I will ask.
Hey I found a really great article a while ago about the sleeve written by the surgeons at WW. Link below. It's very interesting ( but with medical style language) and has pictures and everything. Overall, I was happy with my decision and trusted Dr. Karmali to do what he thinks was best for me. Seems to be working but I have a long way to go yet.

I had a 42 french bougie in Nova Scotia 2 1/2 years ago and have lost 160ish pounds with it..To maintain, I have to introduce exercise and stay away from all the junky carbs!!

I'm sorry you're having a crappy week! I hope today gets a little better for you.
Maybe do something nice for yourself that is rewarding in a new way....OR if you are craving something say 'sure i can have this...but I have to do these three things first" (then go for a quick walk, wash the toilet and put on some laundry ...or some other three things). Then if you still want whatever it is you can have it.
I've got a chest cold and my kid is cranky...when I'm sick and/or miserable my motivation/willpower is zeeeero. I've been in a rut all weekend. Today might be a recovery day for me to just rest and get centred (and get the kids to bed early!)
