Post-op Appt I got the "Talk"
I got the "talk". I have to add carbs, fruit and vegetable to my day and try to get more calories in.
I normally eat 200-300 a day and that's not enough.
At this point in the game I already have low protein and they are concerned. My body is already using it's own protein for energy and so by adding the carbs apparently my body will burn the carbs first and allow some of my protein to store hopefully meaning my protein levels will increase. My vitamin D, B12, Magnesium and Iron are also much lower than the recommended low on the chart they use. Now that I know this it's a no brainer why I'm still exhausted at 5 weeks out and need a nap most days.
My normal food choice would be to choose from tuna, eggs, chili, pea soup, beans, cheese. I've been scared to try new after my last experience but I know I have too cause I'm being watched more closely and they'll be doing at home phone calls to check up on me. I still have to wrap my head around eating when I'm not hungry. I actually forget to eat cause I'm never hungry.
Also since surgery there are alot of things that don't taste like they use to. I tried Cherrio's yesterday and gross, turned my stomach cause they were so sweet.
All I can say is I have to try hard of the next time my Nurse and Nut will give me the condescending finger wag...lol..not really but I don't want to feel like a disappointment. They have all be so good to deal with that it put pressure on me to do things right.
Wish me luck cause trying new things seems to be super scary for me.
Kee.

You can either believe it will happen.....or believe it won't. Both are self fulfilled prophesies. For Me it has happened. My Surgery was September 21/2010
I'm hungry all of the time and it doesn't help that it's getting darker sooner and my body thinks it needs to hibernate!
I see Dr. Birch on Monday, and I'm hoping for a very positive meeting.
Maybe try something simple like applesauce, oatmeal instant packs, squash, sweet potato. That will get some healthy carbs into you!

It helped me around that time my garden was almost ready and I was able to eat fresh peas and some berries from the bushes in my yard.
Take your time with trying new fruits and veggies. I found that apples, peaches, bananas and strawberries really fill me up. Half a banana and I'm completely full1!
A suggestion that I have is to buy frozen berries and add a couple of them to your yogurt snack. It still allows you to get your protein in and your fruit at the same time, you could also add all bran buds to it to add much needed fibre. Another thing is to make crepes with ricotta and strawberry or peanut butter and banana. It's not too difficult to add them in once you know what you can eat.
Hope that helps!
Jill
I've been given such a wonderful opportunity and now I just have to overcome my fears and us it too it's full potential.
Yesterday I added Kashi go lean Berry Cereal and mashed potatoes. The anxiety of doing so almost killed me, just because I totally worked myself up to it getting stuck or not agreeing with me but it went fine. Today I may try mashed carrot or turnip and maybe try a few crackers. Believe it or not for me this is a big thing cause even before surgery I would get stuck in my food ruts and it was hard to change things up.
Thanks again everyone.
