Why is it???

Why is it........That someday I can eat and drink without any problem or pain and then there are days like today when nothing wants to go down.

At 3.5 weeks out I am super frustrated with a couple of things. Like yesterday I could eat just fine. I had 1/4 cup tuna with 1 tsp of lite mayo for lunch and 1/2 cup chili for supper, drank 40 oz of but I couldn't walk or sit up straight, I had so much pain in my largest incision on my right side, I tryed a heating pad and tylenol but resorted to liquid codeine and went to bed.

Now today I have no incision pain but couldn't barely get my food to go down. I went shopping with my family and walked around West Ed for at least 3 hours and felt good. We went for Vietnamese food at Pho Hoa's Noodle house for supper and  I had 1 tsp of steam rice, 1/2 oz of chicken breast and a spring roll, it went down hard and painful even though it took 45 minutes to eat and I was taking very little bites. It was like it was stuck in between my boobs in that breast bone area. It was so painful that I had started to get a panic feeling come over me and I had to excuse myself and go to the washroom to splash cold water on my face, I literally though I was gonna vomit. That feeling lasted for hours and I know there was no food in my little pouch cause it has been 8 hours since I last ate something.
I'm so worried and frustrated that I couldn't even finish typing this without crying. Talk about being a little hormonal.

Anyway suggestions anyone.

Kee.

I'm no expert and in fact have not even had my surgery yet, but I read all over that rice is really hard to tolerate. Maybe it's just something you aren't ready for yet? Hope you are feeling better today.

Dont worry about crying. I feel like crying too sometimes. I am the opposite. Nothing stays with me. They made my pouch too big or something. I can drink 8 oz of milk no problem. I can eat a slice of bread and 1 cup heavy soup and still be hungry. Its so frustrating. Why did we pay the money,,,FOR THIS?? We did this with the hopes and dreams of being healthy and content and to loose weight. As usuall we were not one of the lucky ones and feel like giving up and saying to hell with it. I lost 19 pounds and now it is coming back in 3 days. I had severe complications with blood and gastric reflux. Gasex did NOT work with me. Try some gaviscon liquid and some ant acid and see if it helps you. If not,,go to emerg. next attack. Hope you feel better.

I get the same way..you are NOT ALONE! I don't have an issue with rice - but I do fried food and spring rolls are fried. I actually had 2 yesterday and about a half hour later, they were coming back up (while I was driving I might add)

Some days, some foods are fine, and others well I just keep on getting sick - and yesterday was one of those days. You are not alone. You can ask Dr. Birch next time you see him, or make an appointment to see him. I have an appointment to see him tomorrow and I have a list of questions for him.

But remember, it is all a learning process and YOU ARE NOT ALONE!

YOU ARE NOT ALONE!!!!

You may never be able to tolerate rice. I haven't tried it yet and well fried foods aren't recommned anyway right? LOL
In the US many patients are on a mushy stage for a month post op-- I'm thinking we might learn a few things from them
There will be days that food will travel into the sleeve with easy and the same week the same foods might not -- it's all part of the healing process.
I too see Dr. Birch tomorrow and I hope he can assure me that I'm on the right track.
I'm down to 212 from surgery as of today but it's been up to 215 with the introuduction to solids and poor choices.
I have since made a conscious effort to eat more nutrituionally sound foods in hopes to a) start the weightloss again and B) endure my protein is adequate.
I've vomited a few times this week and I contribute it to eating too fast and eating the wrong things.

Anytime you feel stressed and paniced-- call the clinic and speak to your RN. or text or call any of us!!

Chin up--- you're doing fantastic!

Thanks guys for your replies.
Kim you got me on the spring roll, not the best choice, I wouldn't have order it for myself had we at eat a normal place but at the Vietnamese place the portions are super size and I just took a little portion from my sister, I wasn't allowing my brother-in law to pay for food that I was only gonna eat and bite or two off, what a waste. This friggin eating out bit sucks. I am so seriously done with eating out at home but yesterday being in the city I guess it made a old habit resurface.
Sometimes I think my NUT is a nut..lol.., on my sheet that I just reviewed she said on Oct 6th I could return to solid, BUT I think I'm gonna go back to liquids for a few days and wait to reintroduce mushies. I see her on the 25th and I have a lot of questions for her.
I've also  wondered why is it that in the U.S. they seem to be on liquids for 4 weeks and then mushies for 4 weeks and then move on to solids. I've asked a few about it and hope to get some good answer.
Thanks again guys for your support, it means the world to me to have you guys in my corner.

Honestly Kee, do what you think is best for you. Some foods that you can have, may not sit well with you. and some foods that you shouldn't have, may sit well. I have tried yogurt a few times and EVERY time, I feel really sick - but give me frozen yogurt and I'm fine.

I also asked Dr. Birch today about why some foods one day will be fine, but on a different day, I get sick. Well - it is a learning process he says. I could be eating the food too fast or whatever.

Remember you are almost a month out - you are doing great!

Thanks for the reassurance Adrianna, guess I'm just feeling a little lost these past few days and to top it off I'm hitting a stall. One day at a time, I know it'll get better. Just really hormonal right now and its not helping me stay positive.
Hope your appt today went well.

Kee.

It has been 1 1/2 years since my RNY and I do not eat rice or pasta at all....cannot tolerate it...I hae extreme pain for hours.  There are still days where I cannot eat the same thing that I ate even the day before without pain.

I stick to alot of chicken and salad.....but I am not sad about it.   I feel fabulous and am very happy.

Good luck to your new journey, you will do wonderful !!

Thanks for your reply Rhonda. I've notice what works today sometimes doesn't work tomorrow.
