So I go in to be sleeved in 13 days and I'm freaking out--- with excitement that is. I can see the 200s being put behind me in the near future!!

Just wondering about the post op recovery rooms at the RAH. Are their single/private room options? When after surgery do you get to drink? Anyone know the visiting hours?

I'm sure I'll have a million more things to ask as the week goes on!!

I'm so excited for you!  Way to go for making it this far and sticking with it.

They have private rooms and semi-private rooms, you don't get to choose, it all depends on what time your surgery is.  If you're the last person of the day then you'll get the semi-private room (that's what happened to me).

I'm not sure of the visiting hours, but my hubby was there late with me and no one said anything at all.  It's probably 8 am to 8 pm or something like that.  I slept a lot so I wasn't really aware of the time.

As for the water, it was there for me as I got into my room.  To be honest I didn't feel like drinking at all so it just sat there.  I think I took a few sips my whole stay in the hospital.  You wont feel hungry either but they'll try to put food (ensure, pudding etc) in front of you.  I didn't touch any of it but I'm sure others may have.

Best of luck!

I was the first surgery of the day and I was put into a semi-private as well. Visiting hours are from 11am to 8pm with a "quiet time" between 1-3pm. I had one nurse that followed the hours but most didn't really care when I had visitors.

I wasn't allowed to drink or have anything after my surgery until I had a flocospy(?) done to determine that there were no leaks at the staple sites for my new stomach. After my test I had to wait until Dr. Birch reviewed the results for me to have anything to drink....I wasn't allowed ice chips either.

It was the same thing after my second surgery. I was only allowed the swabs to wet my mouth.

But remember I had the RNY so it may be different since I had things re-routed.

RIGHT! you're correct!  I forgot that I wasn't allowed water until after I had to swallow that awful crap to see if I had any leaks.  My bad!

Although, I didn't want any water after that because of the pain I was in anyway.  The wet swabs helped, though... I remember using them quite a bit along with my lip balm.

My sister was just banded yesterday and she was the first surgery of the day but also ended up in a room with an elderly lady. It kinda just depends on what they have available.
She also had to have a leak test done today and once Dr Birch reviewed the result she was given water, ensure and cream soup. She had to eat it and keep it down before she was allowed to be discharged.
She is home tonight and in alot of pain, she is feeling worst today than yesterday and she's also very emotional, I guess a little bit of buyers remorse sort of speak. She's wondering what the heck she has done to herself and to add to her issues a nurse questioned why she would do this too herself when she is one of the smaller patients(lightweight) they have dealt with.

Wow, I'm surprised at the insensitivity of that nurse.  In my opinion that's really unprofessional behaviour.  Best wishes to your sister for a speedy recovery!

Excuse my language but **** those nurses!!!
I am the type of person that would be telling her to shove her stupid comments up her ass!! I weigh less than I look and I can only imagine someone saying soemthing like that to me---- ohhh look out!!! I'll let you know how my experience goes. I can be pretty quick to snap. hahaha

I hope your sister is doing better and tell her that she made the right choice and the healthier life and lighter body while be the true testament!! :)

I agree...that nurse had no right to say anything. Everyone has surgery - doesn't matter which one - for their own reasons! But that reminds me of after my surgery when I was sick and went to Northeast health and the triage nurse just said that I was throwing up because my body was telling me I needed to lose weight. Actually I was throwing up because my body was trying to stop it from poisioning itself....

In a few days your sister will start to fell better and soon she will be glad she had the surgery.

OMG Kim we are so much alike, must be the back east thing. I seriously would have told the nurse the same thing. I talked to my sister yesterday and she was feeling better than the day before. I know as each day goes by she will be better and better.
Thanks guys for your kind world, I'll be sure to tell her and it'll probably make her realize she'll be fine. Just alot of adjustments right now and I'm sure the next little while will bea rolercoaster ride that she won't want to get off of.

yeah I'd completely have reported the nurse  If she doesn't have the sensitivity to work with bariatric patients and be supportive, then she should go and work in another unit.

WTH!

Obviously wasn't taking into account the whole spectrum of why people are obese, the co-morbidities and quality of life that we're striving for.

I'm steamed.

I hope your sister feels well soon!
