Did the Barium Swallow Test
I had mentioned before that Dr. Birch was sending me for the 'swallow test".
So here's the rundown of what happens:
Get changed into gown, nothing on underneath but underwear.
The technician gives you a packet of powder (produces gas in stomach) and you wa**** back with a small cup of barium (in one big gulp). No burping allowed.
The barium is very thick (a little thicker than pepto bismol? but not quite milkshake thick). Doesn't taste horrid...just thick>
Lie down on exam table, roll from tummy to back about three times (to coat your tummy with the barium).
They take photos in several positions.
Drink barium laying down (with a straw) while holding position ( Two glasses for me). Drink it fast and fill mouth with big gulps of it and swallow. I was dainty and sipped thru straw and had to do it all again...gak.
More xray photos and turning etc., pix holding breathe (breathe in out etc)
They tilt the table up to standing, drink more barium.
I swear I have five pounds of barium in me. LOL!
So when you leave you are told to drink LOTS of water and eat LOTS of fibre...no kidding. We do not want to be blocked or constipated.
Doc should have results next week. Fingers crossed that all is well.
I'm a little nervous because it was hard getting it all down and when I was drinking laying down I could feel some of it coming back up. Is this normal...I had gas from the powder and this stuff was THICK..so I have to believe some of it coming back up is not horribly abnormal.
Anyone else do this test? What were your thoughts on it?

hey want to congrats u on thisexam my experince was horrid i couldnt hold it in lol i was so stress and upset i had to go back to the clinc all upset but lucky i got to go do a scope test it was hardbut they sadate u lol better 4 me i have a weak gage reflex so the barim exam was impossible 4 me and toatly gross so hats of to you !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! nad good luck i am just waiting for my date i have mantaing change sep 16 so hope to have a date by then what produre are u planning?me the sleeve and do u need liguid deit?
