Any 'banded' Albertans?

I'm seeing alot of RNY and VSG peeps here who are loving their surgeries and that is awesome.

I'm wondering where the 'banded' people are and if you're loving your band?

When did you have it done? What was your experience?  Who was your doc?

Did you START out wanting the band or did you end up choosing the band later?

I look forward to any comments and thank you in advance for sharing so openly!

Thanks,

D.

I hope that some people who have had the band reply to this....

When I was originally referred for surgery I was thinking I would want the band. After doing much research and talking to other patients at the Wise Wise clinic who were banded, I decided against it.  Ive heard a LOT of horror stories about the band, and so many people barely seem to even lose any weight on it, and I've seen it cause a lot of complications. One of my former coworkers was banded, and it was a decision she greatly regrets. Hers migrated.

Anyway, do your research. After doing mine,  I personally don't even think the band should be an option for anyone.

I would love to KNOW other people who've had the surgeries...but as it stands I don't personally know a single person who's had ANY procedure done.

Thanks for giving me feedback :)  I appreciate it.

How was your recovery and surgery for your sleeve?

I had Lap-Band surgery on August 18, 2010 in Guadalajara, Mexico.  The cost including hotel and airfare was $10,500.  The organization was providing packages.  I had to pay extra airfare for my spouse, but she stayed with me in my hospital room and in the hotel post-op.

The only negative about the process was that I was booked on Mexicanna Airlines which has since gone bankrupt.  The medical org asked me to arrange for the flights to be convienient for me and minimise my costs for my wife.  So the problems with Mexicanna are on me, not the medical group.

I was required to go on a strict carb free diet for 10 days prior to the surgery.  And post op I was on clear liquids for aboiut 6 days.  The literature says that solid foods are a no-no for about 6 weeks.  I am back on solids after 2.5 weeks, but just not very much of them.

Including the pre-op diet, I have lost 31 lbs in 30 days. I have plateaued right now, but I expect to break through within another week.  The 1 lb per day rate will not be sustainable.  If I can achieve 2 lbs/week I will be happy.

Hiya!!

I know how difficult this dicision is... Me, I'm sure about the sleeve.

I would suggest going to the complications forum and reading some of the stories there. Thats's what I did and is one of the reasons I decided so firmly on the sleeve over the band.

Good luck!

Chance,

Thank you for the suggestion, I didn't know there was a complications forum.

It has not been an easy decision, for sure, I hate surgical procedures with a passion...having 3 c-sections for each of my kids made me wiggy each time...ha!

However, I want to choose to have the healthiest life possible, and I do believe that includes surgical treatment for my obesity. :)

Though this might help you with your decision...

I know for me, I like to see things side by side to really do a good comparison!
