Getting Started on the Weight lose surgery path
hey everyone
My name is melissa and i am new to this site as well, im not sure if im posting in the right spot for this question but i was hopeing somone could help me out. I am 25 yrs old and my BMI is 45% . I have battled with my weight since about 10 yrs old and ive tried every diet and i excersize 5 days a week but cant seem to lose the weight im just not gaining any more which is good when i asked a doctor(wasnt my family dr) about gastric bypass they told me i was too young. My moms side of the family is obesed as well and all kinds of health issues i really dont want to end up in that position. I feel like my weight is holding me back in life so i really want to find a solution before i spend the next 40 yrs fighting a losing battle like my mom and aunts have. so i was wondering if any one has had this problem or knows if its just a dr prefereance or the required age. I am going to my family doctor tomprrow and i plan on asking about gastric bypass again hopeing for better answers and maybe a referral. Is there particualr steps one must go through in order to get a referral first? Any information that i can get on how to really start the whole process would be really appricated. thanks for your help.
Take Care Melissa :)

You need a doctors referel for the weight wise program but they offer educatin modules which anyone can do. You book through the health link number. The clinic wants you do these as well so if you start now you will be ahead. I got the referral of the weight wise site. just google weight wise edmonton and it will pop up.
I don't know if there are any age restrictions.
Good luck in your journey and if this doctor won't refer you try another.

It depends upon who your family doctor is and if they think that you need to have surgery. But first of all you need to get a referral to the Weight Wise Clinic and they will help you get on the road to eating healthier and changing your lifestyle to be more productive in losing weight and/or managing your weight. It is a good program to get into and because u are only 25 it is the best time to get started on changing your life for the future.
Make sure that your doctor knows how important it is to you to get started on the road to weight loss.
Just remember that it takes time for the wheels of progress to start and to be paitent. If you have any questions about weight loss make sure u post it here and I'm sure that all the ladies including myself will be happy to answer them to the best of our abilities. Also be sure that any changes that you are making to your lifestyle(diet and exercies) are talked about with your doctor so you don't cause any undue harm to yourself, like I did before I started chatting with my doctor.
I wish you all the best!

Take copies of the referral forms to your GP. This will help grease the wheels. You can find them at http://www.capitalhealth.ca/EspeciallyFor/WeightWise/default .htm. There are two PDF forms marked as new that I would suggest.
