meeting the surgeon
Hey Karen!! Hope all is well with you these days!
I met with one of Dr. Birch's surgical staff back in early May and its a rather easy appt.
You review the 3 surgeries and pick which one you want basically. You get the idds, ins and outs on each and which one will work for you and then you and him will chose the best choice.
You will be told whether or not you'll require a liquid diet prior to surgery and whether you'll need additional tests prior to the big day.
Once that is done and you get the load of your mind with questions and concerns you'll be put on the waiting list and have to endure the wait til you get "the call". I was approved on May 3rd and I was told late June that I'd be in in September some time. Darn summer had to come and screw up my plans. hahaha
You'll then be set up for the 2 pre-op classes prior to leaving the clinic ( which you'll be weighed when you come back for those) . During the last pre-op class you';ll get booked with your RN and RD for a phone follow up or clinic visit just to see how you are doing as the wait can be longer depending on how many people are on the list ahead of yourself.
They will tell you that you CANNOT gain and they will cancel your surgery if you go during your pre-admission visit.
It's nothing to stress about but there have been people that have been refused surgery and that is a concern for everyone until they meet the best requirements .
Wishing you much success and hope to hear how everythign goes. I hope I didn't miss anything. My appt was rather fast and furious!
