Yes that is correct, both my sister and I will be attending the 9 am class. Are you there for the class as well or you just have appointments that day?

I honestly wasn't impressed with thesse classes and the info I got could have been done of the phone with for us to save the travel. The first one was going over your protein goals and what vitamins you'll need to start 2 weeks after surgery- RN, Dietitian and psych all presented info. I found it to be alot of regurgitated info for myself. In my first class there was on lapbander, 3 sleevers and 2 wanting rny and no one had their dates yet. In the second class it was just Adrianna and I and alot of the same stressed stuff from before with an rn, dietitian and Lisa from psych all presenting pieces to the 2 hr class.

I don't know about anyone else, but I'm very very VERY tired of the travel into Edmonton. I know its part of the process but it gets really tiring after a while esp when it's 2.5-3 hrs each way.. The weigh in part is curcial though and YOU WILL BE WEIGHED IN WITH BOTH VISITS FOR THE PRE-OP CLASSES and they will stress that surgery will be cancelled if you gain. Like we need the added stress but we have come so far!!!

They will make sure you're booked with someone for phone followups and get your nutiritonal and vitamin goals to you. Don't fret is you don't get these prior to surgery though. Your dietitian or a dietitian will see you in the hospital prior to you leaving.

Hvae fun on the 30th :) and Kee I am so happy and envious of you have the support of a family member going through the process too. Likely makes it much easier to stay on track.
My hubby is right there with me but he doesn't have to lose weight....I do.

Oh God I totally know what you mean about driving back and forth to Edmonton all the time. Honestly that is one of the reasons that I choose the sleeve over the lap-band. And of rme it's double the travelling cause I have my appointments and then I also take my sister to her's. We have been lucky enough this time to have our pre-op appts the same day.

I guess to an extent I do have family support, however I have gone to all my appointment alone and still in the end wonder how I will get too the hospital for surgery, and how I will get home. There is alot of stress when it comes to that part and the fact that the dr. wants me to stay in Edmonton for a few days after my surgery.

On the other hand it is kinda nice to have a sister going through it cause I knew what to expect cause she started the program about 8 months before me.  She will probably be having her surgery a month before me and that part scares me cause i'll witness all the good and bad before my turn comes. Oh well what don't kill makes us stronger.

You were adviced to stay in the city after surgery.....hmmmm I couldn't imagine trying to do though first few days not in my own bed!! LOL I'm going home and will check into my smalltown hospital if I really have too. I haven't been told this...yet.

All in all, I wish you ( and your sister) much success!! We'll have to meet up sometime when we're all hot and slim and have a drink and reminice our big days HAHAHAHA

Keep me posted on all her progress and your own!!

HUGS!!

My hubby had Dr. Karmali and he suggested that he should stay in a hotel in Edmonton for at least 2-3 more days after discharge but we declined that as it is always so much more comfortable being at home and in one's own bed.

I had Dr. Birch and he didn't suggest that I should stay in Edmonton at all.  He said that it was okay because there was a hospital close enought that could transfer me if the need arises.

I think that all the doc's have their own ideas.

I hope that you all do well with your waiting to get a surgery date..I know that it is definately not easy.  Been there, done that, got the T-Shirt.  LOL    The hardest thing was to watch my hubby go on a three week liquid diet just before his surgery.  That was the worst to have to endure.

Good luck and keep that chin up!!

I am just beginning this whole process.  Had one appt so far for the first module and have another on Friday.  I have met with the dietician, but I suspect it will be at least an 18 month wait before I get anywhere close to where you guys are all at.  I'll be following your progresses.  I'm happy for you.

Piperdoodle,
Congrats on making it into the program.

Once you start visiting the clinic on a regular basic and do everything they want from Blood work to Bone density test the time will just tick along. I know I'm a little stressed over having to wait until Novemeber for surgery but considering i've only started the process last july I feel like things are moving along well.

Good luck with your Journey.

Wow you just started this process in July and you are going to have surgery in November!  So lucky.  I started this about 3 years ago and I finally have my first consult in September.  I was told that I would be booked after that and current dates are in 2012 and for laperscope it would be 2013.  I wish there was one place that all names went and the Dr. just took the next person on the list, lol.

Ya a list would make life easier for some eh. However I am very pleased that I was able to do the whole Weight Wise process, it's the best and such a teaching tool to have. Plus all the modules are so eye opening. If i could do it all over again I'd choose to do it this way.
