Sigh.
How do you ladies have the patience and resolve to not get discouraged?
It's early on in the game and I'm already feeling anxiety for my appointment
in 2 weeks and I'm so afraid she won't give me a referral to Dr Nohn - or even if she does
and it's a 2 year wait :(
Any advice is appreciated :)
Is there anyone in the Calgary area around?
Thanks again, ladies - your responses and time is invaluable to me :D

It took me the better part of 3 years to see Dr. Nohr. His surgical wait list is two years long for an open RNY and 3 years for laproscopic. So be prepared to wait a long time.

Sigh!
So I just got back from my GP, and after going over all of my full blood work up and what-not
she told me that if I wanted to lose weight for cosmetic reasons, that was my own business, but I don't have to lose weight for medical reasons?!?!?!?!
She said other than PCOS and Insulin Resistance my blood work and physical came back
better than most girls she sees that are 120 lbs....
I just want to cry...
I am 5'1 and 215 with a BMI of 36. WTF?!?!?!
Anyone have any advice?
Does this mean the only option I have is a self-pay to another country?
Ugh. Monday's are no good :(
Thanks for taking the time to read this.

Hi there, I understand your frustration. When i was 200 pounds i was told to just lose 50 pounds and it would all be OK.... and i was like wow really why didn't I think of that...lol

It took me along time to find a doc that was accountable, and Now at 420 pounds was still hard to find a doc to take it seriously. BUT I FOUND HER...

If you like in Calgary her name is DR. CONNIE ELLIS, and she is at the Bowmont medical clinic number 403-247-9797.

I hope this is helpful, GL to you

Shorty,

This is so sad that your GP will not take you and your weight issue seriously. I think I would see another GP and talk about getting into the Weight Wise program. it will be a slight travel cost for you but much cheaper and safer than going out of the counrty plus you can claim the travel on your yearly taxes.
Other than PCOS and being insulin resistant which is now under control I have no other co-moratilities but yet I was still approved for surgery and my BMI isn't over the regular rate they go by.
Sending my referral into Weight Wise and going throught this program is the best decision I hve made for me and my life. I would strongly recommend it. Please keep in touch and let us know which route you decided to take.

I have no idea where any of this will take me, but I was able to easily get into the Weight Wise program and have already seen the dietician.  I know this will be a long haul, but I look forward to where this will go.  If your Dr is not acceptable to this option, might be time to find another one...

I am 5 foot even and when I was 215 pounds I tried to get bypass surgery.  I was also told that I was not big enough and to exercise more.  Well a few years went by and sad to say, it was much easier to eat my way up to a higher BMI.  I am now at 250 and have my first appointment with DR. Nohr in September.  I actually just got off the phone with them and they do take patience starting at a BMI of 35 so I would try another doctor.
