Pain
The reason I called lee is I was suspicious that I was cobstipated but had never been before so I had nothing to compare it to. After surgery you are so focused on protien that you forget about fiber and other essentials. I was able to go to the bathroom yesterday and felt some initial relief. He felt that that was a sure sign of cobstipation but that I may still be constipated as there was still pain. I am a bit concerned that I could have a twist or something in my bowel so I plan to make an appointment with my gp to be on the safe side, and because there is still a burning feeling under my skin (not that its hot to the touch, that's just the sensation I get) but I trust lees opinion and I think he would direct me to the er if he felt it was more. I feel a lot better than yesterday although not perfect. I am going to try his suggestions and hope for the best. Thank you all for the information. I really appreciate it.
What was the problem that the clinic steered you wrong on? Just out of curiosity.
I was 5 days post op when I started to feel really ill and stopped eating and drinking because it made me nauseated as well as I was in considerable pain. I had looked all over the house for Dr. Birch's office # but couldn't find it so I called the clinic to get his number and they put me through to my case nurse in the clinic. She told me that I wasn't taking enough codiene and should take 2 tabs instead of 1 and that would make me better. I waited two days and saw my GP and by that time I was in serious trouble physically and he sent me immediately to the RAH Emergency. As it turned out I was suffering from a serious infection from a staple that had continued to bleed for a couple of hours after surgery and it left a pool of blood in under my stomach. I was taken immediately to the OR where Dr. Birch went back in and cleaned it all out and I was put on huge doses of antibiotics and pain meds. I spent a week in hospital recovering from that experience. When Dr. Birch sat and talked with me about what had happened and wanted to know why I hadn't called his office I told him what my case nurse had said and he was livid at the whole situation. He told me that if I had waited 12 hrs more I could have died because my system was starting to shut down from the infection. As a result of this situation I had to have a tube left in my stomach "just in case" they needed to drain more fluid out until the 22 of March which is when Dr. Birch removed it. That put my recovery time back by 3-4 weeks because I was trying to heal up from both surgeries, deal with the after affects of the anaesthetics, and deal with severe anemia....it was quite a ride!
Even now I still get stabs of pain on my left side every so often but after a call to Dr. Birch he said that I would be experencing those for at least 6 months from the second surgery date.
My case nurse even had the guts to visit me while I was in hospital recovering and try and justify why she told me to take more codiene....which I was so not interested in hearing. It was too little too late in my mind.
Thankfully now myself and my husband are now "free" of the clinic as we have both had our surgeries and are now on the road to weight loss. The only thing we have to do is go to our follow up appointments for the surgeons but that's it.
We kept a log of our "journey" and dealings with the clinic and are thinking of writing a letter to Dr. Sharma telling him the good and bad of our experience so that future people attending the clinic will not have to go through such a rollercoaster ride that could be avoided.

I would tend to agree with the OP who said not to put too much faith in the clinic. My wife and I have had our fair share of mix-ups which were more on the administrative side than the surgical. Notwithstanding, the dieticians are just that. They are not surgeons and don't have intimate knowledge of the issues associated with your sugery. I would want the absolute best advice when it comes to internal issues and my surgeon would be the only choice. Who knows your insides better than they do? Just my two cents.
Cheers!
