I am HUMAN
Yestreday was a very good day! I ate well and went for 2 walks...although I must say that I think that was a little much as I broke out the codene at about 4 am. My liver scope site is quite tender and it was hurting alot last night! I think that they really had to yank on my liver...that spot is sunken in and it pulls. The gas is slowly disappearing, making my body feel better all around. I am getting normal function back...my stomach even growls! LOL! I yawned finally for the first time ( I know that seems really dumb, but anesthetics shut me down in all departments!) I even found some emotions yesterday...I wathched biggest loser and cried, I laughed at my kids antics (although it hurt) and I got mad a and yelled at my son. (See what I mean anesthetics shuts me down!) I even coughed because I had to not because I was supposed to:) So yes, I am again human. And as a human my house is driving me nuts! I feel like I live in a war zone, and yet it is not as messy as it would be if my hubby weren't here:) He's a savior! I have had such a great experience with this so far:) I hope it keeps on going this way for me! ANd I was down to 295.5 today!
Good morning Relene,
It's great to hear from you and you sound so good! Wishing you a speedy and uneventful recovery. How does it feel to be on the losing side?
Was it worth all the pre-op jitters? Because I am starting to get a little nervous. Now that Katrina's date is changed, I am the next one up!!! Unless there are "lurkers" out there or others who aren't on this site- maybe I'll be the only WLS in the hospital then.?
I am getting tired of the Ensure- I've been switching some out to the Boost. Boost has all the same nutrients but actually has more protein. I think that is important right now as I don't know how much I'll get after surgery. Do you know how many grams of protein you are able to get right now?
Are your kids of school-age? If so, you will be glad when Tuesday rolls around and things get a little quieter! Otherwise- stock up on videos. You can borrow them free from the library!
This is time to take care of Relene. Good luck.
Katie

Hey Katie! It was so worth all the ensure and the jitters. I lost 15lbs pre op. I had been stick at 315 for months! I started my liquids April 30. I have lost a total of 20lbs since then. It feels terrific. I did cheat a little pre op. I had an occassional salad no dressing or some broth. The ensure got too sweet. But definatly worth it so far. I like not being controlled by food.
Did you take the prep for surgery class? There was me and one other lady in it. She was sleeved the same day as me, but she did not seem to do as well. She didn't get up to walk that I could see and I heard her moaning about the pain. I recommend that you use all the drugs you can while you're there. I was up and walking around within 2 hours of the recovery room and I got up every once in a while to walk. I think it helped, although I was exhausted after each walk. You will do fine. Positive thoughts. The nurses theRe are great. I enjoyed my stay except my roommate had a lot of company all the time and they were very loud, but I put on my headphones and my sleep mask and I slept lots. So far recovery has been speedy and I'm doing great!
I am supposed to get between 65 and 70 grams of protien. I know I don't get that. I have about a quarter cup of liqUid food 5 times a day. I try to make them all protien rich. Some stuff goes better than others. Milk was bad the first time but now is great. I am drink at least a cup everyday. Takes me about an hour to drink it. 3 am lucky if I get 20 grams of protien right now, but I'm not worrying about it. I'm just trying to get in my liquids as I really don't want to get dehydrated. On the 3rd I get to start solids so I will start to count protiens then. For now I'm sticking with yogurt and milk based pureed soups. I opened an ensure on the day I got home. I'm still not done it. They are very filling. They hurt if you drink too much and a quarter cup is too much for me!
Kids are all back to school Tuesday except my oldest. He goes back Wednesday so he will be doing housework Tuesday. Its good to have a slave! Lol! Do you have kids? What procedure aRe you having? I wish you luc****ep us posted please!
Gee- You really sound like you are doing great.
I did take the class on what to eat later but I think I was by myself with the dietician. (After more than 2 years of WW appts. and modules I can't keep it all straight!) According to my scale at home I have lost nearly 10 pounds in the 11 days of pre-op diet. Even if my scale isn't exact, I am still down a lot- I can actually feel it around my waist! So I'm sure I'll be OK on my last weigh-in.
I do have kids- 3 lovely daughters but they are all grown up and married. I am the grandma to 4 boys and another baby expected this summer. How lucky is that!! I live alone as my husband passed away a couple of years ago. The good part of that is that I haven't had to shop, cook or clean up from food on this pre-op diet. Just lots of glases in the dishwasher and the bottom rack is empty!
I am also having the sleeve but when I tried to put that on my profile- it wasn't one of the options. Only VGB- is that the same as VSG? I also tried to make a "ticker" on that ticker website but then I had to cut and paste it to here and I don't know how to do that. Ditto the avatar!
I know this is unbelievable to young people but I was in my 50's when I first got a computer. We never even learned to type when I went to school unless you took the secretarial program instead of academic! That meant no university or college possible- I never thought I'd want to know how to type- back then that's what secretaries did!
Anyway, I am just so glad to hear how well everything went for you. Keep us posted on your recovery- I don't think a grandma like me will be quite as fast as you but it's good to know what's ahead.

Phew! I have been so busy I haven't had time to get on here and respond! So sorry girls! Thanks for all the lovely well wishes! THings are still great. Katie I think you will enjoy the sleeve. There is a learning curve to eating with it for sure, and there is no way that I am consuming the diet I should be right now, but it will come. I just recommend to take all the pain killers they will allow at the hospital so that when you are awake you can get up and walk . THat's what I did, even though I would have really loved to just stay in bed. I think that is why my recovery hasn't even felt like recovery!
