ok.  I have a sleep mask, slippers, shampoo, conditioner, toothbrush etc, hand lotion, and soap so far.  Should I take pj's?  What about going home clothes?  What do you guys recommend?  With my c sections I had high pants that went up to my boobs for comfort, but this will be different, so what do you recommend I bring?  A dress?  I have only one and I am not sure that I really want to wear it, but I would if you think that would be most comfy:)  I am planning to take a book and an ipod and a brush.  Am I missing anything???

I have heard that ear plugs are good to have! I think I would go with a dress or something that drapes rather than rubs for the trip home. Your tummy will be sore and you won't want to do a car ride home with any kind of pressure.

Just my thoughts.

Woo Hooo Relene tomorrow's the big day. I'll start off by wishing you the best of luck.

For me persoanlly I would take my own nightie, and maybe a lounging gown/house coat cause once the i.v. is out your gonna want to be comfie and not worrying about your bum showing in those hoispital gowns. I would also take my own pillow cause the hospital ones are crap but other than that I think you pretty well got already listed except panties, which I'm sure you just forgot to write here UNLESS you don't wear any...lol...

In the past when I had a laprascopy surgery done I had 3 incision and I went home in spandex short, I knew where they were so stretchie that if I hurt at the waist line i could pull them up more and you know once your in your vehicle you can put them under your belly if it makes it more comfortable.

I'll be thinking of you tomorrow and sending lots of positive thoughts and vibes your way.

Kee.

They kept my I.V. in the whole time I was there, they need it to inject your pain killers and to keep you hydrated throughout your stay.

It would be pretty difficult to get your own pjs on over the line.

good luck tomorrow ... even with the cpap machine i was only there one night  ( i was banded)and the hospital gown was fine as i wasnot walking miles during that time.  the iv's could also be a problem with your own pj's.  sweat pants were the answer for me because u will still be quite swollen and filled with air.

take care

When I went for my surgery I had brought a bunch of stuff and to be honest used practically nothing of it.  The only things I used were my slippers(most important), my lip balm, toothbrush/paste and some hair ties to keep my hair from becoming a tangle of knots.  I was able to have a shower there, but didn't wash my hair because I didn't want to stand for that long (and to be honest the showers really suck!)

I didn't wear my own clothes in the hospital because your incisions will leak a bit and it's easier for the nurses and doctors to take a look at you while your wearing their gown.  As for going home I was wearing some really stretchy sweat pants and a crappy shirt (incisions will still be leaking a bit).  I do recommend bringing a pillow, but I kept it in the car as it really helps to put it over your tummy during the car ride home to ease the pain from the bumps in the road.

The hospital doesn't recommend bringing anything of value so I probably wouldn't bring the ipod.  You will have to leave your room for your leak test, showers, bathroom visits and walks so it's hard to ensure your valuables will not grow legs and walk away on you.  I brought magazines with me so if someone wanted to steal those they could and I wouldn't be hurt.

I do have a word of warning, I had extremely little notice that I was being discharged.  If they tell you that you will be most likely discharged that day, be prepared to get your stuff together and being ready to go.  I was only given 5 minutes to vacate my bed because someone else was supposed to be taking it right away.  I was in extreme pain and moving was difficult, so trying to get dressed and packed was so hard, even with help.  I have to say that part of it was one of the worst experiences I have had.

I wish you luck with your surgery!  It will be the best thing you'll ever do for yourself!

Wow:)  Thanks guys!  Great info!  I hope they are a little nicer about discharging me as my hubby isn't coming until I call him to tell him that I will be going home.

Only things I used were shampoo, conditioner, body wash, toothbrush, toothpaste, moisturizer, brush, ipod (but very briefly), housecoat, crocs (used those as my slippers), and I wore a pair of brand new jammies home. lol Oh! I also took my own pillow and totally used that. The book would probably be useless as you'll be sleeping a lot and on pain meds and won't want to be reading. I tried to do some sudoku, and it didn't work out well for me.

Best of luck tomorrow with your surgery. Hope that all goes well and that there are no complications.

*hugs*

first of all, here is the first suggestion... keep anything valuable like your ipod at home... as a patient next to renegades room and mine had things stolen while we were there, lots of theivery at the hospital... also, loose pants were just fine for me... don't take your own jammies..you change alot, so just use their gowns.. they are plenty big for any size... you won't be up to a book... take flip flops, not slippers, cuz you don't want to bend down to put them on... all your personal effects shampoo etc for sure... take as litle as possible... cuz you just have to take it all home... buy seriously leave you ipod home... hope this helps... i am so excited for you.,.. will anxiously await for news of your safe return home... are you having sleeve or rny.... tammy God be with you...
