Calories...

When I first started at the Weight Wise clinic I was told to have 1400-1500 calories a day. I lost steady weight until this past February where I started to hit a plateau of sorts. During my last appt with my dietitian in mid April, she arranged for me to fast and do the resting metabolic rate test to see how many calories I actually need at rest and in turn put my calories up to 1700.

She stayed that I must have been calories counting wrong and I no doubt was as I was standing still even with exercise. I have since started to re-measure everything and not use an online log ( sparkpeople.com) for calorie logging but rather break down every item in my journal and I have since lost 8 lbs since that appt. The problem is though--- I'm back to eating a legit 1400 and nowhere near 1700.

Anyone else have this problem in which they feel that their calorie count is way off? I know that they know best but I can't consume that many in a day from having cut back since August.
I chat with her for a phone follow up next week and I'll run it buy her.

Kim,

I'm the exact opposite of what you are.

When I first started the clinic I was told to eat 1700 calories a day and that I should be able to lost a steady 1-2 pounds a week. I started getting very frustrated cause I wasn't seeing the scale move so after many months Sherry my RD decided to do the Metaboltic testing. Well it ended up being Leah who done it cause Sherry was on holidays and Leah was very surpried at the results. My rate was off by almost 400 calories.

I seen Sherry in April about 9 weeks after the test and she was also shocked. She has sense told me that my goal is to maintaine my weight cause  my rate is so low. For me to loose 1-2 pounds a week I would only be eating about 900-1100 calories and thats serioulsy not enough food for a person my size that works in a 5 wing nursing home. I find the days I work harder cause I'm go go go which in turn makes me hungry. If I stay home and do nothing all day I can manage about 1200 calories and be content.

To increas your calories a little you could trying adding a bigger snack or like maybe if your having yogurt add some granola or nuts to it. All the little things count. You also have to remember if you're not eating enough your body with haul the weight lost process.

Oh god I wish I had your problem, I love to be able to say that I can't eat all my calories. Maybe we could trade place...lol...

Good Luck.

Howdy gals!

I did weigh****hcers several times with success each time.  When I would hit a plateau people would tell me that the best way to break it was to change up your calorie count.  Apparently your body will burn a target amount (let's say 1400 for arguments sake) if you are normally consuming 1400 calories.  If you shock your system by upping your calorie count today it will try to burn all those calories and assume that there will be that many calories tomorrow so tomorrow you should eat less than today.  You keep up this apttern so that your body never knows how many calories you are going to consume and it is supposed to kick start your metabolism.  I had great success with Weigh****chers.  I lost 70 lbs the last time I was on it.  Unfortunatly I 'fell off the wagon' and never got back on.  I realized that while Weigh****chers was a great tool it wasn't something that would be forever for me so i opted for Weigh Wise which is personalized and surgery:)  Good luck ladies!

Have you met with a dietitian yet?
I thought everyone went on a calorie reduced diet for the most part. I could be wrong but in roder to lose wait we need to consume less calories than we need.
Long as you are losing Sarah, you're doing the right thing!!

I'm ok with 1100-1400 most days, though I was told to take in 1700. Just can't seem to do it these days. Guess I'll see what my dietitian says when we chat on Monday.
