Out of the shadows... I have a date!

To those who have responded...Thanks for all the words of encouragement.

Rosemary- do you know yet what type of surgery you will have? Dr. Karmali explained them all to me and let me decide which one I wanted. At first I said band but then I changed my mind to sleeve. So then I had to see him again to sign different papers but he was very patient with all the explanations.

Katrina- "Surgery Buddy"...It's nice to know there will be a friendly face post-op! Have they given you a date for your per-op appt.? Lorraine said it could be 1-10 days before surgery date. My weigh-in at the WW clinic is June 1 but it is in the morning so you will probably still be in surgery. I have to do 3 weeks of Ensure pre-op. How about you?

Hi Katie,

I have my Pre OP appointment for May 14th. I will also see my Dietitian on May 14th. I have an appointment for a weigh in with my Nurse on May 31st.

I am currently having 4 shakes, 1 Cup skim milk, 100cal snack of fruit or veggies and a 500 cal meal.  This lasts until May 11th when I will go to 6 shakes and 1 Cup skim milk.  I prefer the Glucerna over the Ensure except for the Chocolate I like the Ensure more.

I am 5'11" and I currently weigh 392 lbs so I am really not your average chic.  So don't use me as a guide for what you should do.  From reading this forum I have noticed a lot of fluctuation in what the "pre surgery diet " entails.

I am very nervous but also very excited.  How are your emotions going?

28 days...
Katrina

Katrina,

I have been summoned for my pre-admission clinic this Friday, May 7. YIKES!! I was told to expect it to take 3-4 hours. I sure hope my weight is OK- I haven't had an appt. at WW for about 2 months due to holidays. My next appt. will be my weigh-in on the day before surgery.
You asked how I am feeling. Well it's kind of strange. I have been dithering about this surgery for nearly a year- whether to have it or not. Now that I have a date scheduled--- I feel like I am definitely making the right decision. Actually, I am really looking forward to getting on with it. Of course first I have the 3-week liquid diet. Mine is 4 High protein Ensure, 2 cups skim milk and 6 cups water. I think I'll be up and down all night with all that fluid going through me!

A new chapter is beginning...........

I have a two week liquid diet to do...  5 high protein ensure a day and then anything else that is calorie free and liquid - so water.  But I was also put on 1 high protein ensure a day from now until my surgery. Listening to Dr. Birch to talk to the nurses and such I won't be waiting long for my surgery....I just would like to know when it is!!
