Decisions on which surgery is the right one.

So this morning I went to the clinic to meet with Dr. Birch and I was a bundle of nerves.
Soon as I jumped on the scale and seen that I'm down 70lbs since starting the program in August my worries went away. My BMI went from 56 to 43.
I met with one of the doctors from Dr. Birch's surgical staff and we decided that VSG was the right option for me ( as lapband needs more compliance and I want the best results without doing RNY- which he said I was approved for but didn't need to go that route.). I signed away that I was agreeing to that surgery and discussed liquid diets, plastics , recovery, complications etc.
He stated that I do not need a liquid diet prior to surgery but the dietitian will be calling and will likely tell me to start ita couple days prior to get used to liquids since I'll be on them for 2 weeks.

What were some of your wait times from meeting with the surgeon to the phone call fwith a date?

Thats exciting news Kim.
Being down 70 pounds is awesome as well.
Frig I wish I could loose weight like that. My metaboltic rate is so low now that my nut just wants me to maintain my weight. They say you have to cut 500 to 1000 calories a day to loose weight and my nut Sherry says if thats the case i'll only be eating 900 calories a day, totally not substainable.
I'm so glad that you were approved and now I'm crossing all my body part that when it's my turn in June, I'll be approved. I dont' know what I'll do if they don't.

Congrats again.

Keelan.

You can either believe it will happen.....or believe it won't.  Both are self fulfilled prophesies. For Me it has happened.  My Surgery was September 21/2010

I'm wondering the time frame too.  I had my meeting with Dr. Birch on the same day!  I was also approved for surgery but since I am so short (4'9) Dr. Birch had a few concerns with me so I am on a meal replacement for one meal a day until 2 weeks upto my surgery and then I'm on a full liquid diet.  I decided on the full bypass.  A few people have asked me why I choose that surgery but all I can really say is that I know it is the best for me.  The band - well with my height apparently it wouldn 't work so well for me and with the sleeve - if I'm going to do this, I'm going to do it all the way so that left the RYN and Dr. Birch agreed.

I'm nervous but VERY VERY excited.
