ELIGIBLITY

CAN ANYONE TELL ME WHAT THE ELIGILITY FOR SURGERY IS IN ALBERTA? I WENT TO MY FAMILY DR AND SHE IS GOING TO SEND IN A REFERAL TO DR MITCHELL AND DR NOHR.SHE TOLD ME NOT TO GET MY HOPES UP.SHE THINKS YOUR BMI HAS TO BE AT LEAST 45 IN ALBERTA. MINE IS 42. HOW LONG IS THE WAITING LISTS IN ALBERTA?? 2YEARS I THINK.

I don't know for certain what the min BMI for those doctors is... but with the Weight Wise program it is a BMI of 40 OR 35 with Co-Morbilities. If your BMI is 42, I would ask for a referral to Weight Wise too.

Dr Nohr requires the usual BMI of 35/40. Wait lists are lengthy but you can always call in and get a cancellation. I'm proof that the cancellation route works. My original consult date for Dr Nohr wasn't until January 2011.... I kept calling in and got my consult date changed to a cancellation date of June 2 last year, and my surgery date was to be April 26 this year, and I had my surgery March 29 this year due to another patient who wanted to swap dates.

Do you know of any surgeons in Calgary Alberta, I have phoned 3 places that I found online and 2 don't do lap band and one clinic is closed.  I fear this weight is going to kill me and if I don't get this surgery I will not live a long life.

thanks for the info. i live in lethbridge so we don't have the weight wise program.
