Keelan...Surgery types
The Weight Wise Clinic only offers 3 types of surgeries that I am aware of, lap band, rny and vertical sleeve gasterectomy. I will tell you what has lead me to believe that VSG is right for me...
Originally I wanted the lap band. I figured that it was the least invasive with the least amount of down time so it would do the job at 'half the cost' so to speak. I even watched a youtube video of one being done. Then I went to one of my appointments and met a woman who had just seen her surgeon and asked her what she chose. She had chosen RNY which got me thinking about it. I went home and researched RNY. I was afraid of some of the malabsorbrtion issues, so there I sat on the fence. I had heard about the sleeve in orientation but thought no way in h was that for me. Anyway I went to a module and met a great lady. We got to talking about the sleeve. She filled me in a bit more on it. It was sounding like a better option than the band for me, and better than the RNY (for me). So I trotted home and began my research (that is what lead me here) I told my surgeon that I want the VSG and he thought that was a better option for my eating than the band as you can "cheat" with the band and we were both concerned that I might be a cheater:( I posted something on the boards about why people chjose what they did and it started a big OH war among the surgery types, so I don't recommend doing that. But if you want some real info on the different types of surgeries from the people who live it and love it I suggest going to each surgical board and posting a why did you choose this question. Also research:) Each surgery has different requirements afterwards and yoyu need to be able to live with those requirements. VSG to me is my best option, but also the scariest as there is no turning back. Once I set this path I will be on it forever. But to me that is better than what I am now, so I look forward to it.
No matter what you I won't judge. Do what's right for you. And good luck!
P.S. If WW offered it I would do the DS. I like the way it sounds and how well it has worked for so many. I plan to ask my surgeon if they do it just incase so that I know my options. If not I always have the option of revising my sleeve into the ds:) Happy researching!

Ds stands for duodenal switch. From my understanding it is a combination of the sleeve and the RNY. Those lucky losers get to eat all kinds of high fat high protien yummies like cheese and bacon (kind of like an anatomical Atkins diet really) If you want to know more you can visit the DS forum. Dsers are pretty heated over their surgery type just to warn you. I made the mistake of asking people why they chose and started a mini war on the main page:)
Lol! No I don't think its a quick fix, and your diet does change. It's just that from what I read they require alot of nutrients found in fattier foods. I don't really know though. I have just read posts from dsers who say they eat 3000 calories a day and are 150 lbs. I don't want to spout any false info...those guys are touchy. So if you really want to know check out the ds board. They are the experts:)
Hi
I think the best person to talk to is your nurse, the surgeon. and most of all what do you want
. Everyone does each type for a different reason.. for me I was over 300 lbs. and I knew that for the weight i needed to loose the Sleeve wasnt a great choice.. Do research. bring any questions you may have..
He maybe recommend one that he feels that is right for you.. I asked Dr Birch what he thought after I told him which one I wanted. He told me.. The same one.. But that being said .. He did go over everyone one of the 3 and answer what this is best for.. ect... He is a very NO BS Surgeon.. and wants us to be sure what we are doing...
Take care
